Pros

  • Patient & friendly instructors
  • Clean & well-maintained pool and facilities

Cons

  • No parking space
  • No refunds for days unattended

If you’re looking for a swim school for your kids or relatives, Clem Jones Centre Swim School is the place to go! It’s a family-oriented centre where both children and guardians will enjoy because there are a lot of facilities around.

We love that it has a gym where guardians can spend their time while the kids are having their swim lessons. And there’s also a coffee shop with amazing food and coffee—you definitely won’t get bored here!

We had the chance to talk to some of the parents and asked them what made them enrol their kids at Clem Jones. They told us it’s because they saw their kids having fun–there were a lot of activities for them and the instructors are really good!

Speaking of instructors, we appreciate how friendly and patient they are with their students. Regardless of the skill level, they treat each student fairly and make them feel they belong in the class—who wouldn’t appreciate such teachers?

On another note, we also love how Clem Jones maintains its facilities. It has different-sized pools for different age groups and several equipment—all of them clean and well-sanitised!

We’re just a little put out about the lack of parking space. It would be an advantage to students and/or parents if the school can provide a space for their cars.

We’re also concerned about the no refund policy. While it’s pretty understandable that it isn’t Clem Jones’ fault if the student isn’t able to attend a class, parents or students will appreciate it if they can at least be refunded for those days.

Other than those couple of snags, Clem Jones is a good swimming school for us. In terms of the quality of the lessons and the learning environment, you’ll have the best of both worlds!

Pros

  • Focuses on individual development
  • Compacted but adequate lessons

Cons

  • Strict enrollment policies
  • Strict instructors

What we love about Andrew Baildon’s Superfish Swim Schools Sunnybank first and foremost is that it has other branches around Australia. If the Sunnybank branch is far from you, you can check out its other locations—they offer the same services!

In fact, Superfish is known for its compacted lessons. We have to give the school credit for making its students learn how to swim in a shorter amount of time than most swim schools—adults or kids alike.

Yes, they offer lessons for adults too, and we think this is the perfect place to enrol if you want to learn how to swim in your working age. The instructors concentrate on techniques and focus on individual development, which you’ll appreciate as an adult.

This type of teaching can be a little intimidating for kids though. Don’t get us wrong—the instructors are friendly and know how to communicate with kids as well, it’s just that some are quite strict and can come off a little too strong for kids.

However, this situation can easily be remedied. Superfish trains its instructors well, so they can adjust based on their students’ needs–don’t be afraid to let them know!

Just a little irksome to us though is the school’s very strict enrollment policies. So make sure you read the agreement and agree to all of them before signing.

Also, some facilities need an upgrade like the shower area. Pools are regularly cleaned though, so that’s a major plus point if you’re the type to worry about hygiene protocols!

In terms of lesson quality and efficiency of instructors—we say to give Superfish a try. It’s a good school that focuses on your development, so you’ll learn to swim in no time!

Pros

  • Good facilities
  • Spacious and clean

Cons

  • Needs renovations
  • Mistakes in bookings

When we asked some students and parents at Dipadees Swim School regarding what they loved about the school, they all said the same thing—the instructors. They stayed because of them, and they’ve been recommending the school for the same reason.

According to them, the instructors are very attentive. They make sure that the student, whether it’s a kid or an adult, learns every technique with ease and understanding.

We appreciate how they always check on each student and give necessary adjustments on the techniques based on their learning levels. This allows students to focus more on their strengths and manage their weaknesses so they can learn how to swim easily.

Another thing we love about Dipadees is that it’s very spacious so it doesn’t feel constricting. It also has several pools with varied sizes so the lessons are held in an environment that suits the students and the number of the students in the class.

Dipadees has clean pools and well-maintained facilities, which makes the experience better. The place is quite old though, so some areas need renovations or at least a new coat of paint. The students will be more at home if these areas can be improved.

We’re also a little displeased about Dipadees’ booking system. The staff sometimes makes mistakes in placing a student in the wrong age group, which causes problems if other classes are full.

Pros

  • Nurturing environment
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • Not flexible in terms of rescheduling
  • Difficult parking on Saturday mornings

Having a little chat with some of the parents of the students at John Carew Swim School allowed us a glimpse on how it felt like to take swim lessons at the school. They all gushed about one thing—their kids felt supported and always had fun at John Carew.

John Carew has been in the business of teaching kids for decades, so the instructors knOw how to communicate well with the kids. And since the school is only for kids, all the techniques are focused on how to teach them.

Hence, the kids are always having fun during lessons. Fun is a huge part of a kid’s life, and incorporating it in swim lessons allows them to maximise their capabilities while still enjoying it—we say good job, John Carew!

We also really appreciate how the instructors encouraged the students. We all love a nurturing environment for our kids because it pushes them to work harder, but without the usual added pressure.

Just a couple of disadvantages that we saw, with the first being the parking problem. Parking’s always full on an early Saturday so you might have difficulty in finding one if you don’t get there before most of the students.

Another is, the rescheduling. John Carew’s not very flexible in terms of rescheduling a lesson, so if your kids can’t come on their scheduled date, you’ll have a hard time booking a new date.

Despite these couple of problems though, we still think John Carew’s one of the best swim schools in Brisbane. It provides quality feedback to parents so you can track your kids’ progress well, and it really focuses on the growth of each student.

Pros

  • Organised lessons
  • Creative & resourceful instructors

Cons

  • Classes can be quite full
  • Difficult to contact

In terms of the overall vibe, we think Hollands Swim School has it all! According to some parents we talked to, the place has such a community feel to it that even if you’re not a student, you’ll feel right at home.

Hollands only accepts kids so there are no swimming lessons for adults. However, the school has a lot of conveniences inside that allow parents or guardians to relax while waiting for the little ones to finish their classes.

There’s a coffee shop that offers good food. The school’s also located in a nice area so the vibe’s quite nice, plus—it has plenty of parking spaces so you won’t have a problem with your cars.

We also give credit to the school for having organised lessons. The way of teaching is fun but methodical so the students easily learn techniques while having fun!

We appreciate that the instructors know how to adjust teaching ways and activities based on a student’s level of learning. And we love how they focus on individual strengths as well as group dynamics—it’s a cool environment!

There are just a couple of problems we found which might turn you off a little. Holland’s classes can be quite full due to the number of students, and also it’s quite difficult to contact them due to the same reasons.

Overall, despite those problems, Hollands is still a good swim school for kids. It doesn’t only focus on the technicalities of swimming, but it also prepares the kids emotionally and mentally for the lessons, making it easier for them to adjust.
