- FAQs About Hologram Zoo
Based on our current collective experience as human beings, technology and nature can’t currently coexist without trampling on each other. That’s why I was amazed at how close the Brisbane Hologram Zoo was to balancing the two.
It’s one of the finest alternatives to actual zoos and you could say it even has an advantage since it can “bring back” extinct species. You don’t see that kind of variety in real zoos!
While most zoos have a “look but don’t touch” rule, the Hologram Zoo takes the “looking” part to the next level! If you want to get the most out of that experience, we have the ultimate guide for you!
Brisbane Hologram Zoo Overview and History
The idea for the Hologram Zoo started floating around in the early 2020s. Environmentalists and tech developers teamed up to solve two big problems: animal extinction and the ethical concerns of keeping animals in captivity.
Brisbane was already pretty forward-thinking when it came to sustainability, so they decided to go for it in December 2022. The technology was then voted as the Best Invention of 2023 by Time Magazine.
As it turns out, the tech was so advanced, and the storytelling so immersive, that people left feeling like they’d had a genuine encounter with wildlife. Plus, the lack of cages and enclosures? A huge win for animal welfare.
The Brisbane Hologram Zoo, or “The Holoo” as I like to call it, is exactly what it sounds like—a zoo full of animals that aren’t actually there.
Instead, they’re these crazy-realistic holograms. We’re talking life-sized lions, pandas, dinosaurs (because why not?), and even extinct animals like the dodo, all brought to life through cutting-edge holographic technology.
And no, you don’t need special glasses or anything—these 3D projections just pop right into the space around you. It’s like magic, but, you know, tech magic. Some glasses are available in certain areas for an enhanced experience.

Via Bus: Again, coming from Brisbane CBD, take the 215 bus from Queen Street Bus Station and drop off at Wynnum Rd at Northcliffe, stop 36. The Hologram Zoo is just a five-minute walk from there. This is a 25-minute bus ride, mind you.
Via Train: From Brisbane CBD, take the Cleveland Line (BRCL) at South Brisbane Station and get off at Murarrie Station. The Hologram Zoo is just a 15-minute walk from there, though it’s 1.1 KM away. The train ride lasts 20 minutes or so.
Via Bicycle: If you’re feeling like working out a bit, then the bicycle is always an option and you can also take the same road as the car, State Route 23. This is a 45-minute bike ride, however, and not ideal during hot weather.

This is what the admission fee affords you and it’s actually enough on its own, to be honest. It features varied biomes from jungles, safaris, and even aquariums, and they include animals from several continents.
The shows are designed to be as peaceful and cute as possible so you don’t have to worry about traumatizing the children (unless they’re scared of insects or predators). The continents and animal variety depend on specific times of the year.
A Merry Little Christmas Hologram Experience

Ever wanted a snowball fight with penguins? Then make sure to pick the Christmas Hologram Experience, which is a limited event in the Hologram Zoo. It’s a special segment away from the usual stuff.
This holographic environment is winter-themed and filled with Christmas decorations. And instead of realistic animals, you’re presented with flying reindeer, elves, and moving toys. They also give out a special cardboard Hologram afterward.
Dino Dash with the Dinosaur Hologram Experience

In case you miss the Christmas Hologram Experience, they have something that’s also out-of-this-world, namely a dinosaur show. This has an additional $17.50 Per Person but I’d say the price was more than worth it.
It’s not every day you get to walk among the dinosaurs and other extinct creatures of Earth. Some of the most prehistoric critters include the Brontosaurus, Pterodactyls, giant Millipedes, and even the legendary T-Rex.
A Feast for the Eyes and the Stomach at Rainforest Restaurant

Before or after you walk through the Hologram Zoo, you can choose to eat at the Rainforest Restaurant included within the premises. Don’t expect a gourmet menu, however.
They mostly have pizza but they cater to vegans and people with gluten allergies. They’re not too pricey, and the drinks and desserts are also affordable here, surprisingly.
