One of my favorite dishes at Cru Bar & Cellar is the seared scallops with cauliflower puree and truffle oil. The scallops are perfectly cooked, with a caramelized crust and a tender, melt-in-your-mouth center.

The cauliflower puree adds a creamy texture and a subtle flavor that compliments the scallops perfectly. And the truffle oil? Well, let’s just say it takes the dish to a whole new level of deliciousness.

Jocelyn’s Provisions is a charming bakery and café on James Street, serving up some of the most delicious baked goods in town. Walking into it is like stepping into a cozy French bakery.

The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries fills the air, and the display case is packed with mouth-watering treats. From rustic loaves of bread to delicate pastries and cakes, everything looks and smells incredible.

One of my favorite things to get at Jocelyn’s Provisions is their sausage rolls. They’re perfectly flaky and buttery, with a savory sausage filling that’s just the right amount of spicy.

And let’s not forget about their gingerbread cookies – they’re soft, chewy, and full of warm spices like cinnamon and ginger. But the real standout at Jocelyn’s Provisions is their cakes. Oh my goodness, their cakes.

They have a rotating selection of flavors, from classic chocolate to more unique options like lemon and passionfruit. Each slice is generously portioned and beautifully decorated, with layers of fluffy cake and decadent frosting.

If you have a special occasion coming up, I highly recommend picking up one of their cakes – your guests will thank you.

1. Live Music

When catching live music performances, there are several music venues located in nearby suburbs that are easily accessible from James Street. Whether it’s a local band or a big-name artist, there’s always something exciting happening at these venues.

First up is Black Bear Lodge, a cozy bar and live music venue that’s become a staple in the Brisbane music scene. It is located on the next street just a kilometer away from James Street.

It has an intimate space, with a dimly lit interior and a stage that’s just the right size for up-and-coming acts. The atmosphere is laid-back and unpretentious, and the drink menu is impressive, with a selection of craft beers, wines, and creative cocktails.

Plus, the venue hosts a variety of music genres, from indie rock to folk and everything in between.

Another great option for nearby live music from James Street is The Triffid. This venue is a bit larger than Black Bear Lodge, with a capacity of up to 700 people.

The space is impressive, with a high ceiling, industrial-style decor, and a spacious outdoor area that’s perfect for pre or post-show drinks. The Triffid hosts a mix of local and international acts, and the sound quality is always top-notch.

These nearby music venues have a lot of talented musicians and exciting performances. So grab a drink, find a spot near the stage, and get ready to dance the night away.

2. Cinema

When it comes to entertainment on James Street, there’s nothing quite like a trip to the cinema. Whether you’re in the mood for a blockbuster hit or an indie flick, there are plenty of options for movie lovers on this trendy street.

Every Saturday morning, the James Street Market comes to life with an abundance of fresh produce, locally sourced meats, artisanal products, and so much more. 

Upon arriving at the market, you’ll be immediately greeted with the delightful aromas of freshly baked bread, fragrant herbs, and ripe fruits. The colorful displays of fresh produce from local farms are almost overwhelming.

You can’t help but be drawn in by the vibrant colors and textures of the fruits and vegetables on offer. The vendors are always friendly and knowledgeable, providing me with useful tips on how to prepare and cook the various items.

One of the highlights of the market for me is the locally sourced meats and seafood. The quality is always top-notch, and I know that I’m getting something that is not only delicious but also ethically and sustainably produced.

I’m always impressed by the selection of cuts and the variety of different meats available. In addition to fresh produce and meats, the market also offers a wide range of artisanal products and handmade crafts.

From hand-poured candles to beautifully crafted pottery, you’ll find it at James Street Market. It’s a great place to pick up unique gifts or souvenirs to take home.
