Pros
- Great location – lush and peaceful environment
- Offers a wide array of services
- Equipped with writing spaces and a showcase venue
- Offers accommodations for days-long recordings
Cons
- Bookings fill up fast
- Rates might be more expensive than others
What we love about Airlock Studios is that they offer a wide range of services, some of which aren’t offered in other studios. And that’s why we made it a point to feature them on our list of the best recording studios in Brisbane!
Airlock Studios started in 1996 and it’s worth noting that one of its founders was musician Ian Haug. He’s a well-known guitarist from iconic bands such as Powderfinger, The Church, and The Predators.
It’s also great that recording here would mean working with some of the best recording engineers in Australia!
Their suite of services include recording, production, arrangements, mixing, podcast production, and data transfer.
We also love that they have three large writing spaces that have outdoor areas, complete with instruments! We found it to be a perfect place for musicians to collaborate and just keep their creative juices flowing!
What’s more is, they also accommodate post production for film and TV, as well as a showcase venue. This is perfect for intimate live performances for an audience of up to 50 people, which can be recorded and filmed as well.
The only downside is, if you’re planning to schedule a session at the studio, be sure to contact them early as bookings can fill up fast.
Also, their rates might be a bit higher than other studios. But if you’re looking for a relaxing environment, high-end gear, and an excellent team, then Airlock Studios is an awesome choice!

Pros
- Extensive collection of high-end equipment
- Vintage recording equipment, instruments, and mics are available
- A variety of recording and production spaces
Cons
- A bit far from the Brisbane CBD
- Better to bring a car as commute would take an hour
Lush Recording Studios is a superb choice for your recording needs as they have several recording and production spaces that can fit any setup!
We like that there’s an option to just book the production and editing suite if you would only need to edit and produce your material. This means that rates would be cheaper sans the recording space and equipment.
For those loyal to that old-school analog sound, good news is that this place is complete with vintage recording equipment, instruments, and microphones!
But don’t worry, they’re also very much equipped with digital recording equipment as well, so it’s great that we can have a variety of options.
Even better, also included in their studio rates is access to their wide collection of instruments such as keyboards, guitars, basses, amps, drum kits, pedals, etc.
We also appreciate that we can first discuss with them the equipment that we require prior to our schedule so we can be all set for the session with no time wasted!
Take note that they offer a whole day and half day session with an in-house engineer, producer, mixer that’s ready to assist.
The only downside is, the studio is a bit far from the Brisbane CBD. Commuting by train would take over an hour so it’s better to bring a car since there’s ample parking spaces available.

Pros
- Affordable package rates inclusive of an in-house engineer
- Offers packages for production of albums and EPs
- Digital and vintage equipment available
Cons
- 50% deposit required to secure your booking
- Need to cancel at least 2 weeks prior to get full refund of deposit
Turn your recordings into gold with Alchemix Recording Studios! What we love about this studio is you get to work with experienced engineers, mixers, and producers at a budget-friendly price!
This space caters to bands and solo artists who are looking to produce their singles, albums, or EPs. They also offer sound design, voice overs, and studio dry hire.
We also love that they’re complete with digital and vintage gear as well so there’s plenty of room for sound experiments.
It’s also great that their rates include an in-house engineer to help you with your project. We also like that they offer different packages starting with their short sessions for $88 per hour for 2 – 4 hours.
For a whole day package (10am – 5pm), they charge $550, while they also offer a 5-hour night package (6pm – 11pm) priced at $390.
We like that they offer voice recording packages as well for $220 an hour with an engineer and $99 for additional hours.
We think their rates are pretty affordable and you can customize the quote to fit your budget especially for those who are producing an album or EP.
Just take note that a 50% deposit is required to secure your booking date and if you’d have to cancel, make sure to inform them at least 2 weeks prior to get the full refund.

Pros
- Full-day studio hire starts from $350
- Complete equipment info on their website
- Freelance engineers are welcome to the studio
Cons
- Can only accommodate one session at a time
- An instance of poor communication with a client
Underground Audio is one of the best choices for those looking for the most affordable full-day recording studio rates around! Their rates start from $350 for studio hire and setup for a day, which is a really great deal!
This studio started in 2014 and it’s relatively younger compared to other recording studios in Brisbane, and perhaps that’s why their rates are more competitive as well.
But judging from their gear and the engineering education and experience of owner Chris Brownbill, we think it’s definitely one of the top choices in the city.
It’s great that you can also schedule a tour of the studio with them to get to know more about the setup. We also appreciate that they provide a full list of their staple equipment on their website complete with information on each gear, which is really helpful.
While they do have an in-house engineer, it’s great that freelance engineers are also welcome.
They provide engineering, production, mixing, and voice over, but the downside is, their space is limited to one session at a time since they only have one studio. But the space is good for a six-piece band setup.
Another thing is, we heard from previous clients that there was an instance of poor communication when it comes to the mixing process. It might just be an isolated case, but we hope the project still turned out great.

Pros
- Focuses on electronic music
- Wide collection of synthesizers
- Offers DJ and Production Lessons and Artist Residency Program
- Courtyard can be used for small events
Cons
- Parking might be limited
- Other musical styles/genres might not be accommodated
Don’t be fooled by the Little Street Studio – it might be the coziest little studio in the valley but they actually have it all!
This space is an all-in-one venue for music recording and production, DJ and production lessons, an artist residency program, and even a courtyard for intimate events!
We think it’s definitely one of the best creative spaces for musicians, especially those who are into electronic music. Their focus is mainly electronic music and they have a unique collection of modern and vintage synthesizers.
It’s great that they offer various packages with pretty affordable price points as well. For one off bookings of dry studio hire, they charge an hourly rate of $90 (minimum of 2 hours), half-day bookings are priced at $330, and full-day sessions are at $550.
We also like that we can get discounted package rates for multiple bookings. Their 4 full-day session package is at $1540, while their 8 full-day session package is at $2640, which we think are great deals since sessions would only cost over $300 per day.
The only downside is, parking might be a bit difficult since street parking has a 1 hour limit. But good thing the location is pretty accessible by bus or train as there are bus stops and a train station nearby.
