The 5 Best Eyewear Stores in Brisbane to Elevate Your Vision

Diagnostic Technology: Our team looked for practices using advanced imaging like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanners rather than relying solely on older manual tests.

Frame Selection: To filter the list, we favoured shops that curate independent artisan labels alongside trusted international fashion houses.

Lens Quality: Standard plastic lenses often struggle with screen glare and complex prescriptions. Our priority here was checking whether the clinic partners with premium manufacturers to deliver precision optics and custom coatings.

Value and Rebates: Routine eye care shouldn’t force anyone to drain their savings account. We confirmed which clinics offer direct health fund billing and clear pricing structures to keep costs manageable.

Turnaround Times: Waiting weeks for a new pair of glasses is frustrating if you’ve broken your only set. Fast delivery stood out to us, so we noted which shops maintain on-site laboratories or local partnerships.

Eye care takes many forms. Some locals focus on cosmetic refreshers like eye bag removal services, while others just need a clinic that stocks frames they actually want to wear.

Still, finding a reliable optometrist in a city this size is harder than it sounds. You need glasses that match your lifestyle, budget, and vision needs perfectly.

So, we checked equipment standards, lens technologies, and frame collections across the area. Here’s our guide to the best eyewear in Brisbane, and what each practice handles best.

How much does eyewear cost in Brisbane?

A complete pair of prescription glasses in Brisbane usually costs between 200 AUD and 800 AUD, depending on the lens complexity and frame brand.

OptionTypical Price
Standard Single Vision Glasses200 AUD – 350 AUD
Designer Progressive Glasses500 AUD – 900 AUD+

1. The Eyewear Shop

the-eyewear-shop

Website: theeyewearshop.com.au
Address: Camp Hill Marketplace, 25 Samuel St, Camp Hill
Contact: 07 3395 4105 | Fax: 07 3290 4558
Hours: Monday, Saturday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Tuesday-Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Thursday, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Frames that suit your face shape can feel overwhelming to find when you stare at a massive retail wall. The Eyewear Shop solves this with a virtual styling process: an expert curates boutique frames and delivers them to your home for a 14-day trial.

This setup suits busy professionals who want distinctive, non-corporate glasses but don’t have time to browse in person.

Their clinical side handles complex visual needs, including certified aviation eye examinations for commercial pilots. They also run a dedicated dry eye clinic using Intense Pulsed Light therapy, rather than just handing you standard lubricating drops.

The catch is their online return policy, which deducts a 9.95 AUD handling fee even if you send the frames back in perfect condition.

Still, for adults dealing with chronic eye issues who want boutique frames, they’re an excellent first stop.

Pros

  • Personalised virtual styling with home trials
  • Boutique frames for distinctive personal style
  • Certified aviation eye examinations for pilots
  • Dedicated dry eye clinic with IPL therapy

Cons

  • Mandatory 9.95 AUD return fee

2020-optical

Website: 2020optical.com.au
Address: Ground Floor, 160 Queen Street
Contact: (07) 3483 2020 | 0423 765 500
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Saturday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

2020 Optical cuts custom prescription lenses in-house on their own edging equipment in the CBD. An on-site laboratory lets them control precision directly and often offer much faster turnarounds.

Their Queen Street location makes them one of the best optometrists for commuters who need quick adjustments or vintage frame retrofits.

They use precision Zeiss diagnostic gear to measure your pupils, ensuring distortion-free vision even with tricky scripts.

Plus, they offer private after-hours viewings complete with champagne for a completely uninterrupted styling session.

That premium privacy comes at a steep price, though: a 600 AUD upfront deposit to secure an after-hours booking.

Even so, if you work in the city and value fast, craft-led lens fittings, we definitely recommend dropping in during their normal hours instead.

Pros

  • Onsite custom lens laboratory
  • Central Central Business District (CBD) location
  • Precision Zeiss measuring equipment
  • Direct ophthalmology specialist referrals

Cons

  • 600 AUD after-hours viewing deposit

Customer Reviews

They are highly professional

The team at 2020 is the best in the business. They are highly professional extremely thorough and friendly. They also have the best range of eyewear in Queensland. I also find they provide honest feedback and great recommendations.

High quality customer service

It’s clear that this business takes high quality customer service seriously, and I could sense the substantial amount of thought and attention to detail that has gone into every aspect of this business, resulting in an effective and smooth experience as a customer.

If you are someone seeking eyewear with some actual personality and style, lovingly curated and adapted to fit you and your life, then this is the place to go.

3. Temple Eyewear

temple-eyewear

Website: templeeyewear.com.au
Address: 166 – 168 Oxford Street, Bulimba
Contact: 07 3153 2044
Hours:

  • Monday-Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Thursday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Saturday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

A crowded parking lot near Oxford Street is usually enough to make anyone delay their routine vision checks. Temple Eyewear removes that friction by providing free rooftop parking right around the corner.

They pair this convenience with longer 30- to 40-minute consultation windows, ensuring nobody feels rushed through the chair.

A friend of mine recently got their cycling glasses fitted here, taking advantage of the shop’s focus on specialised occupational eyewear.

They also partner locally with Shamir to manufacture advanced lenses tailored to specific environments, such as high-glare sports and demanding office setups.

The team even use a gentle iCare tonometer for pressure checks, skipping that awful blast of air.

The downside is their rigid lens partnership, so you’ll not find Zeiss or Essilor products here.

Pros

  • Complimentary local rooftop parking
  • Extended 30- to 40-minute exams
  • Specialist ophthalmologist co-management
  • Fast local Shamir lens partnership

Cons

  • Lens options restricted to Shamir

Customer Reviews

Patient, thoughtful

I came across Temple Eyewear in Bulimba while searching for a specific brand of glasses, and I’m so glad I did.

I had been looking for over a year and nothing quite worked for my face. I was making do with a $25 pair from the chemist, as I hadn’t found anything I really wanted to settle on.

From the moment I walked in, the experience was exceptional. Marion looked after me and has an incredible eye for what suits. She was patient, thoughtful, and even arranged an overseas order to source exactly what I was after.

All frames are from leading specialist eyewear design companies from Europe, America and Japan

I’ve bought two pairs of beautiful spec frames from Temple and confirm that the service and range of products are impressive. All frames are from leading specialist eyewear design companies from Europe, America and Japan. Rowan, Marion and Cleo are the best in the business. Go see them!

4. Eyes on Edward

eyes-on-edward

Website: eyesonedward.com.au
Address: 57 Edward Street
Contact: (07) 3221 3221 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM | Saturday, 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM

Eyes on Edward reserves a full 45 minutes for every comprehensive check, allowing ample time for detailed retinal scanning. This approach suits patients with complex visual histories who need their optometrist to look closely at internal eye health.

They back up those long exams with advanced Japanese HOYA lenses, offering customised progressive designs that reduce digital fatigue.

The store also stocks a rare independent frame collection, limiting certain styles to just 50 pieces worldwide to guarantee true rarity.

If you struggle with chronic ocular dryness, they even run a dedicated clinic using Blephasteam warming goggles to unblock protective oil glands.

The main drawback is their strict promotion terms, which lock major brands out of their second-pair discount.

Pros

  • Regularly updated independent frames
  • Advanced Japanese HOYA lenses
  • Clinically proven childhood myopia lenses
  • Hands-on expert frame fitting

Cons

  • Strict second-pair discount exclusions

Their collection of Maui Jim sunglasses was really amazing

Eyes on Edward has amazing collection of sunnies and daily eyewear’s on Edward street. Their collection of Maui Jim sun glasses were really amazing. They have an optometrist at place for eye testing. This place also does bulk billing for eye test on Medicare. The service was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. Should give a special shoutout for Jo for going above and beyond in providing great customer service. Keep up the good work and all the best. Look forward to coming back here again.❤️

Thank you to Jo & Michael for looking after me

Thank you to Jo & Michael for looking after me. As someone with a fairly high script, getting comfortable everyday eyewear has always been the no.1 priority. I’ve previously been to many optometrists but when I found EoE in 2017, haven’t gone anywhere else.   David was great (enjoy retirement!). Michael is excellent,  explaining to me the changes in my vision and providing options for general and work related lenses. He was able to pull up my examination history and compare with previous images. Thank you to Jo for helping me fix my nose piece

5. Oki & Oro Optometrist

oki-oro-optometrist

Website: okiandoro.com.au
Address: Shop E5-D Gasworks, 76 Skyring Terrace, Newstead
Contact: 07 3252 5442
Hours: Monday-Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM | Thursday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Saturday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Mass-market frames often look identical, no matter which corporate shop you walk into. Oki & Oro Optometrist breaks that mould by curating Brisbane’s largest catalogue of imported designer eyewear from independent artisan creators.

They blend high-fashion names like Prada with niche, small-batch brands to give you distinctive styles you won’t see on everyone else.

The shop pairs this luxury fashion focus with heavy investments in diagnostic technology, including digital retinal photography.

Plus, fully certified optometrists working alongside dedicated optical technicians mean clinical precision and expert frame styling in one visit.

You can even pick up handcrafted leather accessories and jewellery while you wait for your fitting.

However, the heavy focus on luxury labels means budget-conscious shoppers won’t find basic, low-cost packages here.

Pros

  • Over a decade of local experience
  • Expansive physical designer inventory
  • Rare European artisanal frame curation
  • In-house optical technician support

Cons

  • No budget-friendly frame packages
