The 5 Best Chinese Restaurants in Brisbane for a Feast Worth Sharing

Culinary Variety and Style. Having a good balance of traditional dishes and modern cooking techniques ensures everyone finds something they like. We checked whether each spot specialises in regional classics or modern fusion.

Pricing and Value. Transparent pricing helps diners budget accurately whether they want a casual lunch or a corporate event. We reviewed standard dish costs, fixed banquets, and set menu options against the overall experience.

Accessibility and Booking. Busy city venues can be a headache to secure on weekends without straightforward reservation platforms. We looked at how easy it is to book a table or order online for each location.

Dining Atmosphere. Different occasions call for different settings, from bustling dim sum halls to intimate private dining rooms. We evaluated the setup to see if a venue suits quick lunches, dates, or large group celebrations.

We used to think our local takeaway was peak Cantonese cooking until a friend dragged us out for proper yum cha and proved me wrong.

Real Chinese food in this city is so much more than sweet sauces poured over fried chicken, but finding the spots that actually get it right can feel overwhelming.

That’s why our team compared published menus, operating hours, and booking systems across the city to separate the genuine gems from the average outlets.

Here are the best Chinese restaurants in Brisbane for your next gathering!

Fantastic experience from start to finish

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience from start to finish! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavour. On top of the great food, the customer service was outstanding. Milly was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole experience even better.

It’s not often you find a place that gets both the food and service right, but this store definitely does. Huge thanks to Milly and the team; we’ll definitely be coming back! Highly recommended! 🍽️👏

Service was great — attentive, efficient, and friendly throughout

Probably one of the best yum cha spots in Brisbane CBD — a little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for the quality. The highlight of our lunch was the forbidden whole duck, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. All the dim sum dishes were excellent too, fresh and perfectly made.

Service was great — attentive, efficient, and friendly throughout.

I’d happily come back again for another round!

Marble columns and high ceilings create an impressive setting before your food arrives. The elegant interior also makes this family restaurant suitable for birthdays and special occasions.

Their kitchen handles fiery Sichuan spices and delicate Cantonese seafood, making them ideal for groups with different heat preferences.

It’s a bonus that you can book through their online reservation system, especially for Friday nights.

The downside is that public holiday operating hours may change, so double-check the schedule around long weekends.

Nevertheless, if you want high-end Chinese food in a striking setting, Donna Chang is a strong choice.

Pros

  • Combines Cantonese and Sichuan styles
  • Heritage-listed former bank setting
  • Online booking available

Cons

Customer Reviews

Id been impressed tasting Donna’s food recently

Great from the moment you walk through the door. You are greeted by a lovely, welcoming look & feel. As a group booking we ventured upstairs to our rooms.

The banquet was excellent. I was warned that it was spicy. Pleased to say the spice levels where fine and every dish was tasty and eating more than needed was easy to do.

Id been impressed tasting Donna’s food recently at the Newfarm Night Feast & this was next level for food enjoyment.

Recommend it to all.

3. The Fifty Six

the-fifty-six

Website: https://www.thefiftysix.com.au/

Address: Level 2, 33 Felix Street

Contact: 07 3187 7817 | [email protected]

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 12 PM-3 PM and 5:30 PM-late

Executive Chef Gerald Ong brings his Singaporean background to The Fifty Six, giving classic Cantonese dim sum a distinctive twist. Located on the top floor of Naldham House, the restaurant offers an elevated dining setting.

Their kitchen serves modern Cantonese dishes alongside daytime yum cha, balancing rich sauces with fresh citrus notes. The chef’s background also brings distinctive flavour combinations to traditional dumpling fillings.

Plus, online reservations make planning a visit convenient, especially during busy lunch periods.

One drawback is the split service schedule, with a break between lunch and dinner that limits dining flexibility. Guests arriving between 3 PM and 5:30 PM can’t rely on regular restaurant service, making spontaneous afternoon visits less convenient.

Pros

  • Executive Chef with Singaporean influence
  • Located in Naldham House
  • Serving yum cha and dim sum
  • Online reservations supported

Cons

  • Limited afternoon Hours

Customer Reviews

Beautiful venue on the top floor, great restaurant and service.

Beautiful venue on the top floor, great restaurant and service. Very friendly French staff (from Reunion & mainland), very attentive with a smile, merci! We visited twice while on holiday for a week in Brisbane, from Wellington NZ. Highly recommend booking during the holiday period. Dim sum, beef black sauce and char siu pork were tasty, with a modern touch. Well presented dishes, tasty gai lan and crispy aubergines stir-fry sides. For desert, the deep fried ice cream with char siu sauce was delicious. Nice selection of wines and cocktails too. We’ll be back 🙂

Service was attentive and excellent, in a lovely venue.

Modern Cantonese, in the Brisbane CBD. We had a wonderful dinner here, and all our dishes from the starters to the entrees, mains and dessert were outstanding. Try the prawn toast, delicious fresh and plump oysters, tartare and definitely the duck pancakes. For mains we shared the XO rice with beef and oyster + an amazing sweet and sour pork. Dessert was deep fried ice cream. Service was attentive and excellent, in a lovely venue. We will be back.

4. Central Restaurant

Their kitchen uses an open setup, and you can even book an open-kitchen chef’s table experience if you want to watch the cooks fold handmade dim sum.

The basement layout gives a moody, intimate feel that contrasts nicely with the busy business district streets above.

This restaurant even offers dedicated private dining areas if you need to run a private celebration or corporate presentation.

The catch is that they shut their doors every Sunday, so weekend family gatherings have to be crammed into Saturday night.

Pros

  • Full vegan and banquet options
  • Open-kitchen chef’s table experience
  • Handmade dim sum and wok dishes
  • Private dining rooms available

Cons

  • Underground space lacks natural light

Customer Reviews

— honestly, we could have eaten everything on the menu

Although they may have forgotten the birthday occasion at first, they truly made up for it with their outstanding service and hospitality. The food was absolutely superb — honestly, we could have eaten everything on the menu! Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. The only small improvement would be the mango sago, which could be better.

Made us feel welcome and completely at ease from start to finish

We couldn’t have asked for a better night. The venue was beautiful and the meal was outstanding, but the real highlight was the team. Every staff member genuinely seemed happy to be there, and they made us feel welcome and completely at ease from start to finish. 11/10, and it’s instantly gone to the top of our list of places to recommend and return to.

The menu ranges from roast chicken and garlic prawns to fruit teas, with prices listed online.

Another thing we love here is that the casual environment makes this spot a convenient option for students and office workers seeking a quick meal.

The downside is that public holiday hours may differ from the regular schedule, so checking before visiting during long weekends is advisable.

Even so, if you want a quick bite with bubble tea on the side, LÜCHA is worth considering.
