    Pros

    • Wide selection of rare and exotic plants
    • Knowledgeable staff who share accurate information about the varieties

    Cons

    • Plant inventory not consistently updated
    • An hour drive from some areas

Narangba Nursery is on our list of the top plant nurseries in Brisbane because it has some of the most rare or unique plants you don’t just find elsewhere. It also has a wide variety of other species you might want to indulge in as you roam around the nursery.

They have 5 acres of land full of tropical plants, indoor plants, fruit trees, flowering native plants that you can explore. If you find yourself wondering what type of plant it is, a staff member is always present, ready to give you information about said plant.

Customers are often surprised to find native plant species they can’t find anywhere in here. And the best thing about it is, if you have a plant in mind that you can’t find in the stock list, the nursery is willing to find it for you.

We’re just a little concerned with the inventory not being updated regularly. As a customer, we usually call firsthand to check if the nursery has what we want, and it’s a bother to drive all the way there only to be told there’s no stock available for said variety.

Another thing that might be a concern for you is the distance since it’s an hour’s drive away from some areas in Brisbane. However, the trip is totally worth it once you see the selection of plants you can choose from, and at reasonable prices.

    Pros

    • Consistent operating hours
    • Has an advocacy of giving free trees to help the environment

    Cons

    • Return and exchange process takes long
    • Some plant species awhile to be restocked

Oxley Nursery offers a wide variety of plants at reasonable prices, which automatically adds it to our list of the top plant nurseries in Brisbane. But what makes the nursery special is the staff and the local knowledge and experience they possess.

The staff at Oxley Nursery are well-versed in gardening at the subtropics. They’ll help you become the best gardener, whether you’re a beginner or not, so they share with you every information you need about how to take care of plants.

Another thing we love is how aware the nursery is of the advantages and disadvantages of growing plants in Brisbane. It tries to only stock plants that thrive in the subtropical temperatures so even the customers will have an easier time taking care of them.

You’ll also appreciate the advocacy of giving away 10,000 trees per year to residents. The main aim is to educate people about the importance of taking care of the environment by planting trees.

One problem we see is the return and exchange process of “defective” plants. You need to undergo a long process just to have a plant exchanged, and some customers just let it go because it’s bothersome.

Another inconvenience you might experience is the long wait for restocking some unavailable plants. Sometimes it takes months to have some species available again for the customers.

    3. Mappin’s Nursery & Aquarium

    Pros

    • Accessible, just 1 km away from Brisbane’s CBD
    • Offers fish and water gardens

    Cons

    • Inquiry price might be different from actual price
    • Some plants have spider mites

We included Mappin’s Nursery & Aquarium on our list of top plant nurseries in Brisbane because it has Aquatic plants, fishes, and other aquarium supplies. While other nurseries focus on terrestrial plants, it also offers fish and water gardens.

Mappin’s Nursery & Aquarium has a variety of balcony, courtyard, and indoor plants that are easy to take care of. Even if you are a beginner in gardening, you’ll be able to grow plants through advice and tips from the nursery’s competent staff.

Some of Mappin’s aquatic plants, by the way, are quite expensive. Though the price is reasonable for the species, they might not be for those who have a limited budget.

We’re uncomfortable about some of the prices of their plants though because the inquiry price is sometimes different from the actual price of the plant. As customers, we want to know the exact rate so we can gauge if it fits our budget.

There are also rare cases of plants being infested by spider mites. You might want to check on the plant first before you purchase so you won’t be inconvenienced later on.

Mappin’s Nursery and Aquarium also offers workshops on growing terrariums, Japanese gardens, Kokedema, and more. If you’re interested, just shoot them an email to know the schedules.

    Pros

    • Presence of stingless bees that pollinate the plants
    • It always has new varieties of plants available

    Cons

    • Doesn’t have an official website
    • Small parking area, which easily gets full

Templex Nursery has been operating in the business for 30 years, which makes this family-based business an expert in our eyes. You can expect meticulous care for the plants as well as the place itself.

It probably has some of the widest varieties of rare plants, which you can’t just find anywhere, most especially not clustered in one nursery. But Templex Nursery is able to have these exotic species under one roof.

The nursery is aesthetically beautiful too as there are just plants everywhere. Some customers who don’t really have plans of buying plants go to Templex Nursery just to visit and take a stroll.

What makes Templex Nursery more interesting is the presence of stingless bees roaming around the area and some exotic birds. The bees pollinate the flowering plants and fruit trees, which results in healthier, stronger plants that can resist diseases.

Probably the only minor thing we don’t like about it is there is no official website. It has a Facebook page, but the information available is quite limited for those wanting to know more.

Also, if you go there, make sure not to visit during peak hours. The parking is small and instantly gets full because of the onslaught of visitors they get every day.

    Pros

    • Has a coffee shop inside for patrons to enjoy while browsing plants
    • Offers exclusive statement pieces like pots and stands

    Cons

    • Only offers indoor plants
    • Plants are pricey

The Plant Bunker might not have a wide array of plant species like the others on the list, but it’s still a melting pot of all things green. They’re our list of top nurseries in Brisbane because it’s a beautiful, calming place you’ll want to keep visiting.

What makes it special in our eyes is that it’s an indoor nursery. Not only does it give you an idea which plants to put indoors, it also shows you how you can style your indoor and balcony spaces with different varieties of plants.

It also offers pots, homewares, ceramics, plant stands, and other gift options that aren’t available anywhere. You can use these items to decorate your homes along with the plants you’ll purchase from them.

The Plant Bunker also has a coffee nook, which you can get cozy at after you finish roaming around the nursery. It’s located inside their plant store and there are many places to sit with the plants.

Honestly, The Plant Bunker is so cozy it’ll remind you of home. The only difference is, you’ll get to learn more about indoor plants and how to take care of them as a bonus.

Their plants are pricey though, so if you don’t want to spend too much, this might not be the nursery for you. However, like what some customers say, if you can afford to spare a few dollars, The Plant Bunker’s plants are worth your money.
