Spring in Brisbane typically runs from September to November. This season is characterized by warm and sunny weather, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. It’s a perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities, and events and festivals.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Brisbane without a bit of rain, but hey, it’s all part of the charm, right? So, grab your umbrella and embrace the occasional downpour. Plus, it’s a great excuse to cozy up with a hot coffee and enjoy the soothing sound of raindrops.
Overall, spring in Brisbane is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, and it’s the perfect season to get out and explore everything this city has to offer. So, whether you’re a local or a visitor, take advantage of the warmer weather and enjoy the springtime activities.
Spring Activities by The Brisbane River
1. Take a River Cruise
Taking a river cruise in Brisbane is one of my absolute favorite spring activities. There’s something about being out on the water, feeling the breeze on your face, and watching the city glide by.
There are plenty of options available, from a relaxing sightseeing tour to a fun-filled party boat. Personally, I love taking a sunset cruise, watching the sky turn pink and orange as the sun sets behind the city skyline.
With a river cruise, you’ll see Brisbane from a completely different perspective. You’ll get to take in iconic sights like the Story Bridge, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and the towering skyscrapers of the CBD, all while enjoying a relaxing journey along the river.
Another great thing about river cruises is the variety of options available. If you’re looking for a more upscale experience, there are plenty of luxury dinner cruises available, complete with delicious food and live entertainment.
On the other hand, if you’re traveling with kids, there are plenty of family-friendly options available, including pirate-themed cruises and interactive wildlife tours.
Some of the most popular companies offering river cruises include the CityCat Ferry Service, Kookaburra Showboat Cruises, and Brisbane Cruises. Just do your research beforehand as these companies offer a variety of different tours and experiences.
Overall, a river cruise is a great way to experience the beauty and excitement of Brisbane in the springtime. So, grab your camera and get ready to set sail on one of the best activities that Brisbane has to offer!
2. Go Kayaking or Stand-up Paddleboarding
Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are two of the most fun and exciting spring activities to do in Brisbane. I mean, who wouldn’t want to get out on the water and feel like a total boss, gliding along the river on a sleek and speedy watercraft?
Brisbane is home to several stunning locations for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. These include the iconic Brisbane River, the picturesque North Stradbroke Island or Moreton Island, and the adrenaline-fueled Gold Coast.
Personally, I’m a big fan of stand-up paddleboarding. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of, but once you do, it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.
There’s something about standing up on the board, paddling with your arms, and feeling the wind in your hair that just makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. In addition, you get a great workout at the same time!
Kayaking is another fantastic option. It’s a bit more low-key than stand-up paddleboarding, but no less enjoyable. It’s the perfect way to explore the river at your own pace, taking in the scenery and getting a little exercise in the process.
And let’s be real, who doesn’t love the feeling of power that comes with propelling yourself through the water with nothing but your own two arms?
Of course, there are a few things to keep in mind before you hit the water. First of all, make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen, as the Australian sun can be brutal. Secondly, be prepared to get a little wet – it’s all part of the fun!
And finally, don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself a little. Let’s face it, we all look a little silly when we’re first starting out on a new water sport. But that’s part of the fun, right?
So, if you’re looking for a fun and exhilarating springtime activity in Brisbane, look no further than kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
3. Walk or Bike along the Riverwalk
As someone who loves to get outdoors and explore the beauty of nature, I can confidently say that walking or biking along the Riverwalk in Brisbane is one of the best ways to experience the city’s stunning scenery.
The Riverwalk is a dedicated pedestrian and bike path that follows the winding path of the Brisbane River, offering incredible views of the water and the surrounding cityscape.
If you’re a keen cyclist, there are plenty of bike rental shops located near the Riverwalk, so you can easily grab a bike and hit the path. For those who prefer to walk, you can simply strap on your sneakers and start your journey at any point along the Riverwalk.
Along the Riverwalk, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the city skyline, green parks, and bustling waterfront areas. One of my favorite spots to stop is at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, where you can enjoy a panoramic vista of the river and the city beyond.
If you’re looking for a bit of a challenge, there are also plenty of hills and staircases along the Riverwalk to get your heart pumping. But don’t worry, there are plenty of flat sections too for those who just want a leisurely stroll.
No matter how you want to experience the Riverwalk, you’re sure to come away feeling refreshed, energized, and with a new appreciation for the beauty of Brisbane. So grab your bike or lace up your sneakers, and get ready to explore the Riverwalk this spring!
4. Enjoy a Picnic by the River
One of my favorite ways to soak up the sunshine and take in the beauty of Brisbane in spring is by enjoying a picnic by the river. There’s something about the combination of fresh air, delicious food, and stunning scenery that makes for the perfect day out.
There are plenty of fantastic spots along the Brisbane River to set up your picnic blanket, from the lush greenery of New Farm Park to the riverside walkways of South Bank. Pack your favorite snacks, drinks, and maybe even a frisbee or football to toss around.
Not only is a picnic by the river a great way to spend a lazy afternoon, but it’s also a budget-friendly activity. Plus, there’s no need to worry about finding a table or waiting in line at a restaurant.
As you enjoy your picnic, take some time to appreciate the stunning surroundings of Brisbane in spring. From the vibrant colors of the blooming flowers to the gentle sound of the river flowing by, it’s a sensory experience you won’t want to miss.
So pack your basket, gather your friends and family, and head down to the river for a day of sun, snacks, and relaxation. Believe me, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss out on!
5. Visit South Bank
South Bank is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to make the most of spring in Brisbane. As someone who has spent countless hours exploring this vibrant and diverse area, I can say that it has something for everyone.
South Bank offers a range of activities that cater to everyone’s mood from strolling along the river to shopping and dining. The iconic Wheel of Brisbane offers stunning views of the city skyline, while the Streets Beach is the perfect place to cool off on a hot day.
If you’re a fan of cultural experiences, check out the Queensland Performing Arts Centre or the Gallery of Modern Art. And for foodies, there are endless options to satisfy any craving, from trendy cafes and street food vendors to fine dining restaurants.
One of my personal favorite things to do in the South Bank is to visit the weekend markets. From artisanal crafts and jewelry to fresh produce and gourmet snacks, there’s always something new and exciting to discover.
And the best part? Most of the attractions and activities in South Bank are free! So whether you’re on a tight budget or just looking to save some cash, you can still have an amazing time exploring this lively part of town.
So next time you find yourself in Brisbane during spring, make sure to carve out some time to visit the South Bank.

1. Brisbane International Film Festival
Oh, have you heard of the Brisbane International Film Festival? It’s one of the biggest film events in Australia, and it happens every spring! It’s a 10-day celebration of cinema and for film buffs like me, this is something we don’t want to miss.
The Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) showcases the best and most exciting films from around the world, from thought-provoking documentaries to heartwarming dramas. It celebrates the art of filmmaking and provides a platform for emerging talents.
Attending the festival is a fantastic way to spend a day or evening with friends or loved ones. You can catch a few films, indulge in some delicious food and drinks, and soak up the lively atmosphere. And who knows? You might even spot a celebrity or two!

2. Oktoberfest Brisbane
Gather round, fellow beer lovers! If you’re looking for a fun-filled event that involves lots of beer, food, and music, then Oktoberfest Brisbane is for you. It’s one of the biggest and most exciting events to hit Brisbane in the springtime.
Held annually in October at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Oktoberfest Brisbane is a celebration of all things Bavarian. From the moment you step into the festival grounds, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported straight to Germany.
Expect to see men and women donning traditional German clothing like dirndls and lederhosen, ready to raise a glass and prost to good times. Speaking of which, beer is definitely the star of the show here.
You’ll find a variety of German beers on tap, from refreshing lagers to full-bodied dark beers. But Oktoberfest Brisbane is not just about drinking beer.
There’s plenty of delicious Bavarian food to go around too. From classic sausages to pretzels the size of your head, you won’t leave the festival grounds hungry.
And if you’re looking to work off all that food and beer, there’s live music and traditional German dances to get you moving. So, be sure to book your tickets in advance, as this festival is one of the most popular events in Brisbane during the springtime. Prost!
3. Brisbane Spring Racing Carnival
Ah, the Brisbane Spring Racing Carnival – the perfect opportunity to don your fanciest attire and pretend you know something about horse racing! Even if you don’t, attending this event is still a great way to enjoy the spring and soak up some of the city’s culture.
As someone who loves any excuse to dress up and sip on a glass of bubbly, the Spring Racing Carnival is one of my favorite events of the year. Here, you can actually watch the races or simply enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Of course, the highlight of the Carnival is the actual horse races themselves. It’s always exciting to place a bet and cheer on your chosen horse as it gallops down the track. But even if you’re not a betting person, there’s still plenty to keep you entertained.
The fashion on display is always impressive, with many attendees going all out with their outfits and headwear. And let’s not forget the food and drinks – from gourmet picnics to fancy cocktails, there’s something to suit every taste.
One of the things I love most about the Spring Racing Carnival is the social aspect. It’s a chance to catch up with friends, network with colleagues, or just mingle with fellow racegoers. Plus, there’s always some form of live entertainment or music to enjoy.
The Brisbane Spring Racing Carnival usually takes place in late October and early November, with events held at various venues around the city. If you’re interested in attending, check out the schedule in advance and plan your outfit accordingly.
4. Brisbane Festival
The Brisbane Festival is one of my favorite events to attend in the spring. There’s so much to see and do, and it’s always a blast.
It’s usually held in September, and it’s a celebration of all things artistic and cultural. There are performances by musicians, dancers, and theater groups from all over the world. Here, you’ll find several art installations, exhibitions, and other creative displays.
One of the things I love about the Brisbane Festival is that it’s not just limited to one location. You can find events and performances all over the city, from the Brisbane Powerhouse to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Many of these events are also free! However, I highly recommend checking out the festival’s program in advance and planning out which events you want to attend.
Some of my personal favorites include the River of Light display, the Sunsuper Riverfire fireworks show, and the Spiegeltent, which hosts a variety of cabaret-style performances.
The Brisbane Festival is a must-attend event for anyone who loves art, culture, and a good time. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of spring in style!
5. Redcliffe KiteFest
Oh boy, do I have an activity for you that will make you feel like a kid again! Get ready to fly high and feel the wind in your hair at the Redcliffe KiteFest.
This festival takes place every spring in the beautiful Redcliffe Peninsula, just a short drive from Brisbane. It’s the perfect day out for families, couples, and anyone who wants to enjoy the great outdoors.
The festival is a celebration of all things kite-related, with kite-making workshops, live entertainment, and food stalls offering a range of delicious treats. But the real star of the show is, of course, the kites themselves.
You’ll see kites of all shapes, sizes, and colors soaring through the sky, from traditional diamond-shaped kites to massive inflatable creatures that will take your breath away.
What’s more, the festival is completely free to attend, so you can spend as much time as you like taking in the sights and sounds. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even bring your own kite and join in the fun.
Just be prepared to share the sky with some pretty impressive competitors! So if you’re looking for a fun and unique spring activity in Brisbane, mark the Redcliffe KiteFest on your calendar.
Springtime Feasts: Brisbane’s Top Food Spots
1. Howard Smith Wharves
Absolutely one of my favorite spring activities in Brisbane is dining at Howard Smith Wharves. It’s not just about the food, but also the ambiance that makes this place special.
The views of the Brisbane River are spectacular, and the newly developed area underneath the Story Bridge has transformed the wharf into a modern dining precinct. Whether it’s fine dining or just a casual bite, there’s something for you here.
One of my personal favorites is Mr. Percival’s, which is a stunning bar situated right on the water. Their cocktail menu is fantastic, and the food is just as impressive. Plus, you get to enjoy the beautiful views while sipping on your drink.
For those looking for something more substantial, there’s Felons Brewery, which serves delicious pub-style meals alongside its locally brewed beer. If you’re in the mood for Italian cuisine, there’s Ciao Papi, which offers an authentic Italian dining experience.
The great thing about Howard Smith Wharves is that there are so many different dining options to choose from. So, whether you’re craving for seafood, steak, pizza, or anything in between, you’re sure to find something that tickles your taste buds.
But be warned, the popularity of Howard Smith Wharves means that it can get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. Thus, make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
2. Kiff & Culture’s Food & Drink Tour

3. Farmer’s Markets in Brisbane
Oh, how I love visiting the farmer’s markets in Brisbane during the spring season! The colorful stalls, the fresh produce, and the friendly vendors always put a smile on my face. It’s like a treasure hunt for the best fruits, veggies, and artisanal products.
One of my favorites to visit is the Jan Powers Farmers Markets. It’s held every Saturday from 6am to 12pm at the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm. This market is a foodie paradise, offering various goods, including organic produce and local cheeses.
Another great market to check out is the Davies Park Markets in West End, held every Saturday from 6am to 2pm. This is a popular spot for locals. The variety of stalls is impressive, and you can find everything from fresh flowers to handmade jewelry.
But the real reason I love visiting the farmer’s markets is the opportunity to support local farmers and producers. It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m buying fresh, seasonal produce that was grown or made by someone in my community.
And let’s not forget about the samples! Many vendors offer free samples of their products, which is a great way to discover new flavors and products that you might not have tried otherwise.
So, if you’re looking for a fun and tasty spring activity in Brisbane, I highly recommend checking out the farmer’s markets.
4. Brisbane’s Laneway Gems
Visiting Brisbane’s laneway gems is one of the best things you can do during the spring season. Now, I know what you’re thinking – “Laneway gems? What the heck are those?”
Well, these are hidden alleyways scattered around Brisbane that are filled with some of the city’s best food spots, bars, and boutiques. Trust me, these laneways are a treasure trove of goodness that you don’t want to miss.
First stop, Burnett Lane. This little alleyway may look unassuming at first glance, but don’t let that fool you. It’s home to some of Brisbane’s best food spots, including Gauge, a restaurant that serves up some of the most innovative dishes I’ve ever tasted.
Next up is Bakery Lane, a cute little alleyway that’s perfect for an afternoon coffee and pastry break. With some of the best coffee shops in the city, including the famous LTD Espresso, Bakery Lane is a must-visit for any caffeine enthusiast.
But wait, there’s more! Winn Lane is another gem located in Fortitude Valley. It’s a quirky spot that’s perfect for boutique shopping and brunching. I recommend you visit the famous Jocelyn’s Provisions and try some of the best cakes and pastries in town.

We love one can simply bask in the wide range of art and fashion under the Queensland sun!
There’s even live music every morning, and great international food and coffee.
You can come here for breakfast and spend the rest of your time having a blast with its great atmosphere and vibes!
Outdoor Adventures in Brisbane
1. Whale Watching
If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable spring activity in Brisbane, then consider whale watching. From June to November, you can join a whale-watching tour and witness the majestic humpback whales as they migrate up and down the coast.
There’s something about seeing these massive creatures up close and personal that just takes your breath away. Plus, it’s an excellent excuse to get out on the water and enjoy the fresh sea breeze.
To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first. I mean, what could be so exciting about watching a bunch of whales swim around? But as soon as we spotted our first whale, I was hooked.
Watching these creatures breach out of the water and crash back down with a thunderous splash is a sight to behold. But it’s not just about the whales themselves.
Some of the tour operators include Tangalooma Island Resort, Brisbane Whale Watching, Moreton Bay Escapes, and Whale One. Also, their tour guides are a wealth of knowledge and will tell you all about the whales’ behavior and migration patterns.
Did you know that humpback whales can travel up to 10,000 km during their migration? Or that they sing complex songs that can last up to 20 minutes? I certainly didn’t, but thanks to our tour guide, I do now.
And let’s not forget about the stunning scenery. The Brisbane coastline is already beautiful, but seeing it from the water with the whales in the background is just breathtaking. It’s like a scene out of a movie, except that it’s real life.
Now, I have to warn you; there’s no guarantee you’ll see whales on every tour. These are wild animals, after all, and they don’t exactly follow a strict schedule.
But even if you don’t see any whales, the tour itself is still worth it. You’ll get to see other marine life, like dolphins and turtles, and enjoy the fresh sea air.
So there you have it, folks – whale watching is one of the best spring activities you can do in Brisbane. It’s a unique and awe-inspiring experience that you won’t forget anytime soon.
2. Rock Climbing at Kangaroo Point
Hey there, fellow adventurers! If you’re looking for a heart-pumping activity to do this spring in Brisbane, I highly recommend rock climbing at Kangaroo Point. It’s not just a workout, it’s a fun and challenging experience that will leave you feeling accomplished.
I have to confess, I was a bit nervous at first. But as soon as I strapped on my harness and started climbing, I felt like a superhero. The views from the top are simply stunning, and it’s a great way to see Brisbane from a new perspective.
The best part about Kangaroo Point is that there are routes for all skill levels. Whether you are a novice or a skilled climber, there is an obstacle that will suit your level. And if you’re feeling unsure, don’t worry – there are trained instructors who will guide you.
But be warned, rock climbing can be addictive. Once you conquer one climb, you’ll want to try another. And another. And before you know it, you’ll be hooked.
So if you’re looking for a fun and thrilling activity to do this spring, head over to Kangaroo Point and give rock climbing a try. You never know, you may uncover a newfound interest!
3. Hot Air Ballooning
Another unique outdoor activity that I highly recommend trying out during springtime in Brisbane is hot air ballooning. It’s a serene and beautiful experience that will leave you in awe of the stunning scenery below.
The idea of floating thousands of feet in the air in a wicker basket was a bit daunting. But as soon as we took off, I was filled with a sense of peace and tranquility. The view from above is simply breathtaking, and it’s a way to see the city from a whole new angle.
Hot air ballooning is also a perfect activity for couples, families, or even solo travelers. There’s something magical about sharing this experience with others, whether it’s watching the sunrise with your loved one or making new friends with fellow adventurers.

4. Hiking and Biking in Mount Coot-tha
If you’re looking for an opportunity to get some fresh air and engage in physical exercise this spring, hiking and biking in Mount Coot-tha is a must-do activity in Brisbane. It’s a challenging experience that will leave you feeling accomplished and refreshed.
I recently tackled the Mount Coot-tha Summit Track and let me tell you, it’s no easy feat. But the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking, and the sense of achievement is worth every step. If you’re up for a challenge, I highly recommend giving it a try.
If you’re not up for the steep climb to the summit, there are plenty of other trails to explore in Mount Coot-tha. You can take a leisurely walk around the Botanic Gardens, or challenge yourself with the Araucaria Circuit.
And if you’re more of a biker than a hiker, there are plenty of trails for you too. One of the best things about hiking and biking in Mount Coot-tha is that it’s a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and connect with nature.
With plenty of trails to choose from, the Mount Coot-tha Reserve is a great place to start with. And if you’re not sure where to begin, there are guided tours available as well.

Spring in Brisbane is the perfect time to hit the beach and soak up some sun. Whether you’re into swimming, surfing, or just lounging on the sand, there are plenty of beach activities to enjoy in this beautiful city.
If you’re more of a thrill-seeker, there’s surfing. Brisbane has some fantastic surfing beaches, like North Stradbroke Island and the Gold Coast. And if you’re a beginner, don’t worry – there are plenty of surf schools around that can teach you the basics.
If you’re not into water sports, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the beach. You can take a leisurely stroll along the shore, play some beach volleyball with friends, or just relax and soak up some rays.
One of my favorite beaches in Brisbane is the famous Surfer’s Paradise on the Gold Coast. It’s a great place to try out all kinds of beach activities, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby if you need a break from the sun.
But if you’re looking for something a little more low-key, there are plenty of smaller beaches to explore as well. Some of my favorites include Coochiemudlo Island and Moreton Island.
So if you’re looking for some fun in the sun this spring, head to one of Brisbane’s many beautiful beaches and try out some of these activities.
