I recently had the opportunity to embark on the River to Bay Island Tour and let me tell you, it was an experience my inner child won’t forget anytime soon.
This tour is an absolute must-do for families with kids looking for a fun and unique way to explore Brisbane’s waterways and islands.
The tour departs from Northshore Harbour in Hamilton. From there, we hopped on a comfortable and spacious vessel and set off on a journey along the Brisbane River, past the impressive skyline of the city.
As we made our way towards the Moreton Bay Marine Park, our guide provided us with interesting insights into the local history, ecology, and culture.
We learned about the region’s Aboriginal heritage, the significance of the mangrove ecosystems, and the impact of the colonial era on the area’s development.
We then set off towards the Moreton Bay Islands, a stunning archipelago located just off the coast of Brisbane.
Our first stop was at Tangalooma Wrecks, where we had the opportunity to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters and see the sunken shipwrecks up close. We also spot a wide variety of marine life, including turtles, dolphins, and colorful fishes.
After our snorkeling adventure, we enjoyed a delicious lunch on board the vessel as we made our way towards the town of Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island. Here, we had some time to explore the town, visit the local museum, or simply relax on the beach.
Another stop was at St. Helena Island, a former penal colony that has now been turned into a national park. We had the chance to explore the island’s rich history, including a visit to the old prison ruins, the warden’s quarters, and the graveyard.
Our guide shared many fascinating stories about the inmates and the conditions they faced during their time on the island.
The tour concluded with a leisurely cruise back to Brisbane, during which we enjoyed stunning views of the sunset over the city skyline.

As we ascended, the views became even more spectacular. The winding Brisbane River, the towering skyscrapers, and the lush green parks and gardens all came into view.
The kids in the gondola with me were absolutely thrilled, pointing out their favorite landmarks and snapping photos. The ride lasted about 12 minutes, which was just long enough to take in the sights and enjoy the experience without getting too dizzy.
And the best part? The Wheel of Brisbane is open until 10 pm every night, so you can experience the thrill of the ride both day and night.
One of the things that impressed me the most about The Wheel of Brisbane is how accessible it is. Located in the heart of South Bank Parklands, it’s easily accessible by public transport, and there’s plenty of parking available nearby.
The gondolas are also air-conditioned, which makes it a perfect activity to enjoy during the hot summer months.
Ticket prices for children start at $15.20, while adults can ride for $19.95. You can also opt for a private gondola if you want to make the experience even more special.

As someone who loves spending time outdoors and trying new things, visiting Rolin Farms in Brisbane was definitely a highlight of my trip. This family-owned farm offers a unique and educational experience for kids and adults alike.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff who explained the different activities and options available. We started by taking a tour of the farm and learning about the different fruits and vegetables grown there.
The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging, answering all of our questions and even sharing some fun facts about the history of the farm.
After the tour, we got to try our hand at picking some of the fresh produce ourselves. It was amazing to see the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables and taste how fresh they were. We even got to take some home with us as a souvenir of our experience.
One of the highlights of our visit was the animal feeding experience. We got up close and personal with some of the farm’s resident animals, including goats, sheep, and alpacas. It was so much fun to feed them and learn about their different personalities.
We also enjoyed exploring the farm’s playground area, which had plenty of activities for kids of all ages, including a jumping pillow, mini golf, and a sandpit.

From the moment you step inside the sanctuary, you can feel the excitement in the air. There are so many animals to see and interact with, but the main attraction is, of course, the koalas.
The sanctuary has a large koala population, so you’re almost guaranteed to see a few sleeping in the trees or cuddling with their handlers. And if you’re lucky, you might even get the chance to hold one yourself!
That’s right, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is one of the few places in Australia where you can hold a koala. It’s an experience that you and your kids will never forget.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. The sanctuary is also home to a variety of other Australian animals, such as kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and even dingoes.

Visiting the White Ridge Farm is definitely a fun and unique experience for the whole family, especially for kids.

My personal experience at White Ridge Farm was truly magical. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by a herd of curious goats who were more than happy to come say hello. I couldn’t resist petting their soft fur and watching them playfully butt heads with each other.
The highlight of my visit, however, was getting to feed the alpacas. These adorable creatures have the cutest faces and their soft, wooly fur is just begging to be snuggled.
As I offered them a handful of feed, they gently nibbled from my palm, creating a connection that made me feel like I was part of their herd.
White Ridge Farm is not just about animals though. They also have a beautiful garden that visitors can stroll through, admiring the flowers and taking in the tranquil surroundings.
And if you’re feeling peckish, there’s a lovely cafe on site that serves delicious homemade treats and locally roasted coffee.
In terms of admission fees, White Ridge Farm offers day passes for visitors of all ages. Children between 3 to 14 years old can enjoy the farm for just $14.00. For concessions, students, and pensioners, the day pass is $18.50.
Meanwhile, adult visitors can purchase a day pass for $25.00. For families of four, there’s also a family pass available for $75.00, which includes admission for two adults and two children.

Tangalooma Island Resort is home to one of the most exciting activities for kids and adults alike – hand feeding the dolphins! It’s a unique experience that you won’t find just anywhere.
The resort’s wild dolphin feeding program is known all around the world and it’s easy to see why. The dolphins are super friendly and are not shy about coming up close to the shore to say hello.
To participate in the feeding, we had to be knee-deep in the water with a bucket full of fish in hand. As soon as the dolphins spot you, they swim right up to you, eagerly awaiting their turn for a snack.
It was an unforgettable moment when I held out a fish and a dolphin gracefully emerged from the water to take it from my hand. Their skin felt smooth to the touch, and their playful personalities made the experience even more memorable.
Aside from the dolphin feeding experience, Tangalooma Island Resort also offers a wide range of activities for kids, such as snorkeling, sand tobogganing, and beach volleyball. You can also take a scenic helicopter ride to see the beautiful Moreton Island from above.
The resort has great facilities that make the experience more enjoyable, including restaurants, shops, and a spa. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making sure that everyone has a great time.
Keep in mind that there are limited spots for dolphin feeding, so it’s important to book in advance. Also, check the resort’s website for updates on the feeding schedule, as it changes depending on the time of year.
The admission fee for the dolphin feeding program is included in the resort’s day pass. For adults, the day pass costs $89, and for kids aged 3 to 14 years old, it costs $69.

One of my favorite things to do here is to visit the parkland’s many playgrounds. There are multiple playgrounds dotted throughout the parkland, each with its own unique theme and equipment.
Whether your kids love climbing, swinging, or sliding, they’ll have a blast exploring the different playgrounds and making new friends.
For those who love animals, Roma Street Parkland has a small wildlife area where you can see native animals like wallabies, possums, and koalas up close.

This heritage-listed site is one of the best-preserved military fortifications in Australia, and is a great way to experience a slice of Queensland’s history.
Upon entering the fort, I was immediately struck by the imposing stone walls and the sense of history that permeated the air.
The fort was built in the 1880s to protect Brisbane from possible attacks by foreign invaders, and it played a crucial role in both World War I and World War II.
As I explored the fort, I was amazed by the level of detail and the amount of information provided by the knowledgeable volunteers.
One of the best things about Fort Lytton is that it offers plenty of activities for kids. They can try on military uniforms and imagine themselves as soldiers, or take part in the popular “Drill of the Day” activity where they learn how to march and drill like a soldier.
The interactive exhibits and displays also offer a great opportunity for kids to learn about Queensland’s military history in a fun and engaging way.
Another highlight of our visit was the chance to see the soldiers firing the historic guns. The loud bangs and puffs of smoke were thrilling to watch, and kids will be surely mesmerized by this kind of experience.
The daily gun firings are a highlight of the Fort Lytton experience and are not to be missed.
In addition to the fort itself, there are also plenty of beautiful picnic spots and walking trails in the surrounding parkland. I took a leisurely stroll around the area and spotted some interesting wildlife, including a few kangaroos and wallabies.
