Cons

  • Schedule might change constantly

Dr. Peter Burke is one of the best urologists that you can find in Brisbane and one of the doctors at the Brisbane Urology Clinic in Spring Hill.

When it comes to his qualifications, it’s worth noting that he was a prostate cancer research fellow at St. George Hospital in Sydney in 2001.

He was also a fellow at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Urology) in 2004 and at Churchill Hospital, Oxford, England in 2005.

He specializes in surgical diseases of the kidney. It’s good to know that he can perform different kinds of procedures which include robotic and laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery for kidney stones, PUJ obstruction, and complex kidney stone surgery.

Apart from the Brisbane Urology Clinic, it’s great that you can also find him at other clinics and hospitals. This includes Greenslopes Private Hospital, Hillcrest Private Hospital, Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, and Sunnybank Private Hospital.

It’s also quite easy to reach him through the Brisbane Urology Clinic website wherein you can set an appointment or make a call.

Although it may sound convenient that he has several hospital appointments, this may also make his schedule constantly changing especially that he performs surgery often. So be sure to not miss your appointment when you get a consultation with him.

  • Assists with a wide range of treatments for different urological diseases including male fertility

Cons

  • Parking easily fills up at the hospital

Dr. Roger Hinsch has over 25 years of experience and is one of the best doctors to consult especially if you have incontinence or conditions related to male fertility.

The practice, led by Dr. Hinsch, emphasizes ethical urology with a goal to always offer their expertise with compassion, which we think is very important.

Dr. Hinsch specializes in general urology and laparoscopic surgery, kidney disorders, prostate cancer and other diseases, as well as advanced male and female incontinence.

Notably, he is a member of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Urological Society Of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ), and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

It’s good to know that they provide treatments for a range of urological conditions. This includes advanced urethral stricture surgery and reconstruction, orchidectomy, testicular cancer, penile curvature, scrotal swelling, and circumcision.

In addition, they also provide assistance when it comes to male fertility. What’s more is, Dr. Hinsch specialized in the advanced management of urinary incontinence and reconstruction of the lower urinary tract for 2 years in London.

The only downside is, parking at the hospital can easily fill up especially on busy days. Also, Dr. Hinsch might not be available for consultation at times since there are days wherein there’s a scheduled surgery.

Pros

  • Sole specialization in prostate cancer and diseases of the prostate
  • An expert in robotic prostatectomy and prostate brachytherapy
  • Extensive experience in radical prostatectomy handling over 2,000 cases

Cons

  • Appointments might be short due to his tight schedule
  • Need to look elsewhere for consultation on other urological diseases

What’s great about Dr. Peter Swindle is that he has a sole focus on prostate cancer and other diseases of the prostate. He’s an expert in robotic prostatectomy and prostate brachytherapy.

Most notably, Dr. Swindle was even the very first Queensland urologist to perform a robotic prostatectomy. He has extensive experience in handling over 2,000 cases in radical prostatectomy.

It’s worth noting that he is also the founder of the Queensland Prostate Clinic located in Brisbane. The facility aims to provide in-depth information on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

We’d also like to highlight that patients highly recommend Dr. Swindle not just because of his expertise but because of his professionalism and pleasant personality. We found that he makes patients feel at ease and recommends him if you need a second opinion.

He’s currently a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland and a senior researcher at the Mater Medical Research Institute, where you can schedule an appointment. In addition, he also operates at several hospitals in Brisbane.

It’s also quick and easy to book an appointment with Dr. Swindle by filling out a booking form on his website.

Just take note that appointments with him might be short since he has a busy schedule. But nonetheless, patients are still satisfied with his service as he connects well with patients and provides all the essential information.

Pros

  • Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
  • Certified as Master Surgeon in Robotic Surgery

Cons

  • More expensive than traditional surgery
  • Would still need to convert to open surgery if ever complications arise

We included Dr. Boon Kua on our list of the best urologists in Brisbane as he’s the first Australian to earn a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. His clinic, UroBriz, at the Wesley Hospital also holds this title.

He was also certified as a Master Surgeon in Robotic Surgery by the same organization which is the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association (CRSA).

And even with these impressive feats, he still continues to participate in programs to further hone his skills, which really says a lot about his dedication.

One of his expertise is the use of Da Vinci® Robotic Surgery which is designed to offer minimally invasive surgery. With more than 10 years of using this state-of-the-art technology, he became a primary surgeon and mentor to urologists and trainees.

Dr. Kua’s clinic, UroBriz also offers Nano Knife for prostate cancer treatment, UroLift, Penile Prosthesis, and Thulium Laser. The aim of this clinic is “to provide the highest possible quality of care with the least invasive treatment option.”

We think that robotic surgery is a very good alternative to traditional surgery as it’s less invasive and patients can avoid possible infections.

However, this kind of surgery is more expensive than traditional surgery or even laparoscopy. Also, if ever there would be possible complications, the surgeon would still need to convert to open surgery which would entail bigger incisions.
