What impressed us most was their strategy session on how to preserve my Aunt’s children’s inheritance while facilitating her move into assisted living. They clearly explained financial trade-offs and deadlines, which gave us peace of mind. 

Communication was strong. We received weekly progress updates and direct access to a dedicated adviser for questions. That ongoing availability stood out. 

However, some clients have mentioned that the fee structure for comprehensive financial planning is higher than that for basic placement services. The turnaround for quotes can take longer than expected, especially in busy periods.

When a colleague was searching for an assisted-living apartment in Brisbane, Aveo Parkside Carindale was at the top of our list. From our first tour, the resort-style amenities and location opposite the Westfield shopping precinct immediately stood out. 

The assisted-living wing offers on-site visiting GPs and a connection to the co-located high-care facility. These provide residents with a smooth transition as their needs evolve.

The village’s modern apartments feature a 24-hour emergency call system and inclusive home maintenance services, including gardening and repairs.

Wellness and social life clearly matter at Aveo, with a gym, cafe, and event spaces all located within the community center. The setting blends independence with support in one vibrant place.

Communication and process are smooth. The admin team provides clear contract details and guides through care-service options for assisted living. Clients also praised how their transparency made them feel confident to avail themselves. 

However, some clients mentioned longer servicing wait times for high-care transitions. Exit fees and contract terms also require close review.

Wheller on the Park Retirement Village, operated by Wesley Mission Queensland, stood out for its resort-style setting and beautifully maintained apartments designed for comfort. 

The village is surrounded by landscaped gardens and features connected walkways, making it ideal for relaxation and light exercise. Each apartment is energy-efficient and designed for ageing in place, with wide hallways and 24-hour emergency call systems. 

Residents can also tailor support levels through Wesley Mission Queensland’s Care Concierge Program. It coordinates in-home help, medication management, and access to allied health professionals, such as physiotherapists and podiatrists. 

Beyond care, Wheller excels in promoting an active lifestyle. Their lifestyle amenities are among Brisbane’s best: a private cinema and billiards room encourage residents to stay active and social. 

Additionally, they offer weekly activities, including art classes and bus trips to Westfield Chermside. These activities add variety and help foster friendships among residents.

However, some clients have mentioned that the village’s premium amenities come with higher upfront and exit fees compared to smaller facilities. Others note that there is limited availability for preferred apartment layouts due to high demand. 

Provides nutritious foods

Clients are cared for in every way in a large variety of settings, indeed Wheller is a city rather than a small community, thus it is impossible to know everyone even by sight. apparently smooth functioning high and low care and independent living are offered here and, best of all, the food provided is more nutritious than I have seen in other places and staff seem lovely. When we visited Southern Cross Care in Holland Park, the impressive multi-storey building with its full-glass frontage immediately caught our eye.

Their private en-suite rooms, with bay windows and direct access to garden balconies, offered a comfort level rarely seen in standard care homes. The amenities felt more like a boutique lifestyle center than a typical aged care facility. 

Care-wise, what impressed us was the personalization. They have a 24-hour nursing staff and visiting doctors, as well as dedicated Memory Support units for residents requiring specialized care. 

Communication during our tour was clear and empathetic. The staff outlined individual care plans and the transition path if higher-level support became necessary. 

The community feel is also strong, with regular social programs and landscaped grounds that foster connection and social interaction.

However, their internet connection is slower than other facilities. Some clients have also mentioned that at times, staffing levels felt stretched, and certain accommodation types come with high RAD/DAP costs.

Visiting the newly redeveloped campus at Geebung, we were struck by the spacious suites with large picture-view windows overlooking the lush gardens. Each room includes AC units and phone connections.

Their care model stands out for its comprehensive scope, encompassing permanent care, dementia care, and palliative services. The on-site allied health team ensures residents don’t need to transition elsewhere.

Additionally, social life within the village is carefully planned. Residents can enjoy a café and community gardens, as well as the charming Garden Cats and Eden Companions that bring warmth and interaction to daily life.

Transparency was evident during our walkthrough. Staff clearly outlined personalized care plans and the additional lifestyle package, which included all-day refreshments and activities.

However, some clients have mentioned limited availability for rooms and higher pricing for premium suites. Despite this, the overall experience remains one of Brisbane’s most comprehensive and well-managed aged care options.
