Sometimes, life just feels like too much. Work deadlines pile up, relationships get complicated, or anxiety seems to sneak into every moment. At times like these, I always opt to get therapy, especially when I can’t handle things by myself.
Some clinics focus solely on talk therapy, others combine methods like CBT and ACT with practical strategies for daily life. Knowing which therapists offer the right mix of expertise can save you time, stress, and energy.
So, if you’re also looking for professional help, I’ve listed the best therapists in Brisbane. These are the ones who stand out for their ability to guide clients toward greater clarity.

Booking with Brisbane Counselling Centre felt organized from the start. Their admin team handled the intake smoothly and even guided me through Medicare Easyclaim, so the rebate went through immediately after each visit.
My therapist used a mix of CBT and trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR, which the clinic has offered for years.
Each session was steady and well-paced. It’s also structured enough to feel productive, but still flexible whenever I needed to slow down or unpack something deeper.
The only downside was availability. Their therapists are in high demand, and evening slots fill up quickly. As a matter of fact, I had to adjust my schedule to fit their limited late-day hours.
Fees vary depending on the clinician. Costs are comparable to most private clinics, with a gap fee that isn’t fully listed on the website.
Brilliant therapists
“Matthew Worthington is brilliant. He has helped me turn my life around, from being full of anxiety to being calm, confident and equipped. For anyone who wants to let go of what holds you back (and have a laugh while you’re doing it), Matt is your man. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough and will always be grateful.”

Ascent Psychology made a strong first impression with its transparency about the process and pricing. Before my first session, I already knew the treatment structure, the rebate amount, and their cancellation policy.
They help with anxiety, depression, and emotional trauma. I appreciate that they also do couples counselling, helping with relationship difficulties and communication.
My psychologist here blended ACT and neuroscience-informed strategies, and the sessions felt very intentional. Almost each week built upon the last with a clear therapeutic direction.
Their expertise definitely showed, but that expertise also came with a premium. You can expect an individual session to cost up to $320. But don’t worry, because the Medicare rebate reduces it, but still leaves a noticeable cost.
Still, the quality of care is undeniable. Telehealth was smooth, and communication was consistent.
The only drawback is their strict cancellation policy. You must cancel at least 2 business days in advance or pay a 100% fee.
Valuable sessions
“Our family sessions with Francisco were a valuable and eye-opening experience. His direct and no-nonsense style was different from what we were used to, but it ultimately helped us address things more honestly and make real progress. He created a structured space that encouraged clarity, accountability, and deeper understanding between us. While it wasn’t always easy, the process led to meaningful shifts in how we relate as a family, and we’re thankful for the growth it sparked.”

Made a real difference
“We did couples therapy with Francisco to improve our communication style and his guided sessions led us to discover where our attitudes come from, how we complement each other and to confront emotional experiences repressed for years. This experience has made a real difference in our relationship, because we now understand each other better and have more empathy not only for ourselves but also for the people who matter in our lives.”

The Brisbane ACT Centre stands out for its specialization. Almost every therapist here is deeply trained in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, so sessions feel focused and consistent with the ACT model.
All processes are streamlined, even during intake. Many clients said they were clearly informed about what ACT is, how it works, and what outcomes to expect compared with other approaches.
In fact, sessions here take a very present-focused approach. It’s highly proven to be effective for anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Just note that costs vary depending on the therapist’s level of training, so you won’t get an exact figure without contacting them. But it’s great knowing that Medicare rebates apply across the board.
The centre is also busy, and popular clinicians book out quickly. But their multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and allied health workers means you can usually find someone whose style fits your needs.
Kind attendants
“I’ve been attending the Brisbane ACT Centre for a few years now and my therapist has been absolutely pivotal in helping me through some of the toughest experiences when no one else understood. Could not recommend therapy and this business more. Front office attendants are always helpful and kind.”

Dr Purssey and his staff were incredibly helpful, kind and completely professional during every visit. My friend’s experience at Brisbane Mind & Body Clinic felt more holistic compared to traditional psychology settings.
Before committing to ongoing sessions, specialists will typically offer a free 30-minute discovery call. Many clients praised this for clarifying what they wanted from therapy and for helping them tailor an approach for me.
The therapy incorporates evidence-based methods such as CBT and EMDR. But they also pay attention to lifestyle, routines, and overall well-being. It doesn’t feel “new age” or vague; rather, it connects psychological work with broader habits and goal-setting.
But it’s important to note that their integrative model can lead to costs slightly higher than at standard clinics. Nonetheless, medicare rebates do apply, and they work with most health funds.
Aside from that, certain specialties, like DBT, aren’t always available. Availability depends on which therapists are currently practicing.
Professional and empathetic
“I want to extend my thank you to Nicole at Brisbane Mind and Body for her support and guidance. During our phone chat today, Nicole provided not only expert advice but also genuine care and understanding. Her approach was both professional and empathetic.”

Amazing support
“Dianne and Chris are both lovely and experienced professionals that I personally wouldn’t be the same without. Dianne’s amazing support is what I had been looking for, for a long time. I highly recommend this psychologist, and if you’re not wanting to travel for a face to face, over the phone is available and what I use personally.”

Ikigai Psychology’s branding is based on a Japanese concept. The “Ikigai” roughly means a “reason for being.”
The clinic felt warm and client-centred from the start. Their approach is highly identity-informed, taking into account cultural background and personal values. This made my sessions feel more aligned with who I am beyond just symptoms.
They offer both in-person and telehealth sessions. Their therapists use a mix of modern modalities like ACT, CBT, and coaching techniques when needed. I also appreciated that they provide assessments, including ADHD evaluations.
I also appreciate the convenience of their online booking portal. It took me less than five minutes to receive appointment confirmation.
Prices here are straightforward, and Medicare rebates are available. Standard sessions are typically around the private-practice norm, but after-hours appointments cost at least $250.
Their cancellation policy is also strict, with a $95 late-cancellation fee. You should always be confident about your schedule before setting an appointment with them.
A really safe clinic
“I’ve been (and am still) going through a very hard time. Tunteeya has actually been a godsend. Thank you everyone who gave high reviews. For someone relying on google search I am so grateful for your feedback and recommendations of Ikagai. I was apprehensive as sharing is hard, but I couldn’t have felt more safe than I have here. Thank you”
– Lora Jory, Google Review
Astonishing insight
“Teeya is not just a practitioner, but she is also a kind and able healer. She is able to look at issues with astonishing insight, but most importantly, she has the ability to explain things very simply! I recommend Ikigai for those that are looking for a safe place and help to unburden, unload or deconstruct life’s challenges – whatever they may be! Love!”
