These 5 Internet Services in Brisbane Made Buffering a Thing of the Past

  • Speed and Reliability: We compared the internet speeds, both download and upload, that each internet provider offers.
  • Cost and Packages: We looked at the monthly fees, installation costs, and whether the packages match our budget and needs.
  • Customer Service: We evaluated the provider's responsiveness and helpfulness in addressing issues and inquiries.
  • Contract Terms: We reviewed each provider’s contract length, policies for upgrades, cancellations, and relocation.
  • Additional Features: We also checked for extras, such as bundled TV/phone services or security features.

With more people working from home in Brisbane, the demand for reliable and fast internet is growing rapidly. Finding a plan that balances speed and extra features has become increasingly challenging.

As someone who relies on a fast internet connection for work, I have been searching for affordable and fast internet services for years. With numerous options available, it’s essential to thoroughly compare plans before signing up.

So to help you make the best choice, here’s a guide to trusted internet services in Brisbane that meet a variety of needs and budgets.

In terms of affordability, Tangerine Telecom is one of the most affordable internet providers in Brisbane. Their introductory discounts on all their NBN plans are a great offer that saved us up to 60%.

Their most affordable plan costs AU$69.90, which is cheaper compared to the average monthly cost from other providers.

We find the internet speed decent for their cheapest plan, which has a typical evening speed of 25 Mbps. However, this might not support gaming services, and we experienced buffering when playing HD videos.

Using this data plan, we were able to browse social media swiftly and do research without many interruptions.

Another positive side is that all of Tangerine’s plans, whether you choose the NBN25, have no data caps. This has allowed us to consume unlimited data.

Sadly, our encounter with customer support has been both a hit and a miss. There were instances in which our complaints about the internet speed were addressed immediately, but this has remained inconsistent.

Pros

  • Affordable monthly cost
  • Maximum download speeds on NBN 25 to NBN 1000 plans
  • Up to 60% savings

Cons

  • Customer support issues
  • Not the best option for gamers

Great speeds and no dropouts

Since rejoining Tangerine, I’m wondering why I ever left in the first place. The value for money for their NBN beats anyone else. I get great speeds and no dropouts.”

The website is easy to use

“Website is easy to use and activated early the day after placing the order. I made a late decision to order one of the recommended modems, and the sales process was quick and painless. So far, quite impressive. Will post a further review once things are underway.”

For gamers and streamers, Aussie Broadband has been highly recommended by both past and current subscribers due to its fast internet connectivity.

Upon using their internet data plan, we rarely experienced connectivity issues, and internet browsing has been smooth sailing. However, some users complained about instances where their internet connection is down for a considerable amount of time.

In most of its plans, there’s unlimited data. A ‘build your own‘ feature is also available with various data cap options, which we appreciate.

What’s unique about Aussie Broadband is that they offer specific NBN plans for gamers. We didn’t avail ourselves of this one, but it has been received well by Australia’s gaming community.

In terms of cost, we find Aussie Broadband not the most affordable. On the downside, they don’t include a modem with their plans, and you have to pay extra if you need one.

On a positive note, their customer service was better than that of most internet providers.

Pros

  • Strong customer support
  • Reliable network performance
  • Flexible plans with no lock-in contracts
  • Dedicated options for gamers and seniors

Cons

  • Not the most affordable
  • Lacks extras and modems

Guided me during the process

“Recently, I contacted Aussie to assist me with reconnecting my NBN. I was very fortunate to speak with ‘Jimmy’ to help me. As a senior with very little knowledge or experience in these matters, Jimmy made me feel so much better and that he would guide me during the process. We spoke for over 2 hours, and at no stage did he show any signs of frustration or impatience in getting me up and running.”

Outstanding customer service

“Outstanding customer service from start to finish. Special thanks to Karl from Aussie Broadband for his support in troubleshooting and setting up the static IP, and to NBN technician Hafiz Ahmed, who went above and beyond during installation. Despite the challenges with our property’s setup, Hafiz managed to get everything up and running smoothly, no small feat given the tricky underground conduit. Truly appreciated their dedication and would gladly recommend them any day.”

Telstra’s mobile and NBN services have been highly reliable in Brisbane CBD. However, there have been instances where connections became intermittent due to system maintenance.

But their online services have been very convenient. Online payments, recharging of prepaid accounts, and activation of mobile SIMs and eSIMs are made available at the comfort of our own homes.

In terms of pricing, we find Telstra’s plans to be considerably more expensive than those of other internet service providers. We paid for the premium plan, which costs $85/month with 1,000 GB of data and a 5 GB speed limit.

There’s a fixed contract when subscribing to Telstra, and early termination charges apply if you cancel before the contract ends.

Aside from internet services, Telstra offers device payment contracts that provide access to the latest gadgets on the market. With such flexible payment options, we will definitely be upgrading to early device releases.

We were also impressed with their internet add-ons, such as the Wi-Fi booster, subscription to streaming services, and explore internet extras.

Pros

  • Extensive network coverage
  • 4G and 5G speed
  • Local customer support
  • Convenient online services

Cons

  • Fixed contract
  • Expensive plans
  • Customer service concerns

Highly recommended

“5G Home broadband recently became available in our area. As we are a long way from an exchange and live down a battleaxe block, we always have difficulty with a hard-wired connection. Not wanting to go NBN hybrid, we signed up for 5G Home Broadband. Very happy, very reliable, great speeds for our household, which mainly uses it for streaming services. Very happy, highly recommend over a hardwired connection.”

Really good so far

“Was looking at trying out Telstra’s 5G home internet, and so far it’s really good. I am around 1km from the nearest tower in a low-density area, with the house being on a slope with a direct line of sight to the tower from the living room window. Speeds vary, but I get between 330-530 download and 50-75 upload. Ping with an Ethernet cable is around 19, and ping on Wi-Fi is anywhere from 20 to 40. Their new WIFI7 modem is great and very reliable. For $85 a month with 1T data, it’s a decent alternative to NBN.”

Our experience with Dodo has been satisfactory. The internet is fast enough to stream HD movies, browse the web, and video call without lagging.

For someone who greatly values affordable internet access, Dodo is a great choice. It is cheaper than its competitors. We have also not received any hidden payments, so we only pay the exact amount for our current plan.

One of the best aspects of Dodo Mobile is its effortless sign-up process. Even managing our account is hassle-free.

Dodo’s internet speed is fast and reliable, even in remote areas. However, there are instances where the network performance falls below expectations.

In terms of customer service, our experience has been positive so far. We have been receiving timely and helpful responses. But again, we know users who encountered challenges, highlighting areas for improvement.

Moreover, Dodo Mobile offers helpful additional internet features. These include unlimited data banking, international call credit, and unlimited standard calls, texts & MMS.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly choice
  • No excess data charges
  • Unlimited data banking
  • International call credit included
  • No lock-in contracts

Cons

  • Mixed network coverage
  • Customer support challenges
  • Limited 5G access

The network coverage is very reliable

“The network coverage is very reliable. Don’t experience many dropouts. Sometimes on the train, but that’s okay. I’ve not had any issues using Dodo. Probably been the best provider I’ve been with so far. It was really easy to set up as well. Download speeds are good. No issues there.”

Their customer service has been great

“I really like Dodo, I use them for my mobile plan. In my experience, their customer service has been great. I’m never on hold for more than 15 or 20 minutes (personally, I think that is a very short wait time). Their service representatives are always kind and softly spoken; they are very thorough in making sure they meet all your needs and requests.”

Superloop is a strong contender in the market. When it comes to speed and reliability, we were impressed by its consistency and high-speed performance of its Ultrafast plan.

We were able to stream movies, play games, and attend online video conferences without interruptions and minimal downtime (yes, even during peak hours!).

Regarding cost and packages, Superloop offers flexible plans from NBN 25 to NBN 1000. For the Everyday Broadband, we paid $55 for the first 6 months and $72 ongoing as part of their discounted promo.

Customer service was generally satisfactory, though we did notice some delays during peak call times. Their live chat was helpful for quick queries.

Contract terms are favorable, with no lock-in options available for most plans. This gives the freedom to switch or cancel without incurring steep penalties.

Among additional features, we appreciated the My Speed Boost, referral discounts, and the free modem offers.

Pros

  • High-speed performance
  • Competitive pricing
  • No lock-in contracts

Cons

  • Customer support challenges
  • Cancellation process requires a 30-day notice
  • Early exit fees

Solid service

“Been connected on the 1000/50 Unlimited Data plan for about 6 months, and the connection has been solid and service responsive. Occasional outages (maybe 5 over this time), but they notify you ahead of time if possible, and usually occur between 12 – 6 am, which is scheduled maintenance. Very satisfied.”

-Daniel W, Trustpilot

Best price with the best upload/download

“Superloop has the best price with the best upload/download. 7-day customer service, which is great. Milhan assisted me today because I had issues that were my fault (oops). He understood what I wanted and assisted me. He was very friendly too. He was the first person over the last 2 days to understand what I needed. Very relieving. Thank you, Milhan.”
