The 5 Best Indian Restaurants in Brisbane That Turn Curry Nights Into Culinary Adventures

  • Authenticity: We assessed each restaurant’s authenticity in terms of flavor and the use of Indian spices. The balance of spices should reflect our standards, adhering to traditional Indian cooking methods.
  • Quality and Freshness: We also evaluated the restaurant’s quality and freshness of the ingredients. The herbs must be freshly harvested or well-preserved, and the meats should meet high standards of quality.
  • Variety of Menu Options: We also reviewed the restaurants’ array of food options in our ranking. There should be a balance of vegetarian and meat dishes, as well as regional specialties.
  • Service and Hospitality: Aside from the food, we took into consideration the attentiveness and politeness of the staff. Their knowledge of the dishes and ability to make recommendations were a bonus.
  • Ambience and Cleanliness: We also chose a restaurant based on how comfortable and inviting the atmosphere is. The dining areas and restrooms should be well-maintained.

Spicy and warm dishes are my comfort food. I’ve always been a foodie, and throughout many years, I have concluded that Indian dishes are at the top of the game.

Rich, aromatic, and with a great depth of spiciness. From the more common chicken and lamb curries to specialties like goat and vegetable curries, each dish tells a story about India’s rich culinary traditions.

This place is best known for its authentic Indo-Fijian goat curry. It was my first time tasting goat meat, and it was tasty and succulent. The goat meat was falling off the bone and served with perfectly steamed rice, garlic naan, and papadums.

Aside from this specialty, the restaurant also offers inviting vegetable curries. The chickpea and potato one had a generous portion and great depth of flavor. Other meat options for the curry include chicken and lamb.

For vegetarians, they serve butter paneer and vegetable samosas, among many options.

Their flavored naan breads are served fresh. It’s buttery and the perfect accompaniment to soak in the curry. However, some reviews of staleness were reported.

To accommodate food allergies, Kurry Kingdom can serve most dishes in gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free options upon request.

On the interior, the place is cozy, complemented by a vibrant decor and traditional music. It’s a great place for casual dinners, but it’s situated a bit away from the CBD.

Pros

  • Offers goat meat dishes
  • Wide range of options for curries
  • Generous portion sizes
  • Dietary-friendly options
  • Offers vegan/vegetarian dishes

Cons

  • Less central location
  • Reports of inconsistency in naan bread freshness

Great service and atmosphere

“Absolutely loved this place! The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and full of flavor—easily one of the best I’ve had. The naan was fresh and perfect for scooping up every last bit. Great service and cozy atmosphere. Will definitely be back!”

Very tasty, authentic Indian food

“Had dine with the family. Then went back for a takeaway a week later. Amazing food!! Had the vindaloo, rogan josh, three variations of naan, and the tandoori chicken wings. Very tasty, authentic Indian food! Owner came out and checked in on the feed and asked for feedback. 10/10 will be back!”

We have visited Kinara several times, and they consistently deliver spectacular food. The meals are rich in flavor, and the prices are reasonable.

Kinara specializes in sizzling tandoori delights, creamy curries, and vibrant street eats. They also incorporated a kids’ menu for young budding explorers.

We wanted something different aside from chicken and lamb, so we decided to order the fish pakora. It has a great kick of spices and is perfectly fried. There are also prawn dishes, such as the prawn kholiwada, which is marinated with Indian spices.

We also like the vegetarian options. The vegetable pakora and the methi mattar mushroom were tasty. The spices didn’t overpower the freshness of the vegetables, which we really commend.

However, there are only a few dairy-free options on their signature secret menu.

Aside from the food, we enjoyed the aromatic cocktails, fragrant lassis, and sparkling delights. Our top pick is the Khati Mithi Lassi.

The service is great overall, with the owners and servers being particularly polite.

Pros

  • Offers seafood options
  • Wide range of vegetarian options
  • Gluten-free options available
  • Available menu options for kids
  • Offers a wide range of beverages
  • Friendly and attentive staff

Cons

  • Few dairy-free options
  • Wait times can be longer than expected

Fresh and delicious food

“The food was fresh and tasted yumm… We tried golgappa (pani puri), chilli panner, nawab kofta, naan and roti… Recommend this place. Staff were great and they were taking care of their diners. Hope the quality and standards get maintained!”

-Krunal Patel, Google Review

Great quality and quantity

“We frequently order Indian food from Kinara and we experienced that their food taste, quality and quantity is very good. We loved Prawns garlic masala and Kinara’s special chicken makhani recipe so much. Butter chicken is scrumptious with garlic naan.”

The Punjabi Palace has brought us dining pleasure. They offer a comprehensive menu of dishes from all over India.

When ordering food, you have the option to control the spiciness of the dish. The staff asked us if we wanted our orders to be served mild, medium, or hot.

Some of their unique offerings include Indian street foods. They offer the traditional pani puri, soya chaap tikka, and chole bhature. Many are vegetarian-friendly.

We also enjoyed the selection of dry curry. The specials were also a must-try, including the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala. The spices were on point, and the sauces were rich and comforting.

Their menu also includes a banquet. It features an entrée, a signature curry, and accompaniments.

They also offer a kids’ meal. However, ordering nuggets and fish fingers defeats the whole purpose of going to an Indian restaurant.

We finished our meal with traditional Indian desserts. We were delighted that they offer gulab jamu, which is a deep-fried donut ball dipped in rose-flavored syrup.

Overall, the service was great, although it can take longer during peak hours.

Pros

  • Diners can control the spiciness of dishes
  • Unique Indian street foods
  • Wide range of vegetarian options
  • Offers banquet dining
  • Kids meal available

Cons

  • Service time can take longer during peak hours

Nice atmosphere and incredible food

Amazing dinner! The atmosphere is really nice and the food is incredible. Mango chicken and garlic, and cheese naan are strongly recommended.”

“It’s my first time trying Indian food. When I told the staff that it was my first time, she gave me the best recommended dishes. It was very delicious. They gave a big portion of tasty curry. I really love butter chicken. Also, the staff are very friendly.”

The ambiance at Mehek is truly astounding. Its strategic location in the Brisbane CBD makes it accessible to many tourists and locals.

Many of our colleagues recommend this place. Their top picks? Definitely the butter chicken. The machhli tamatarwali and prawn malabar were perfectly moist and rich in flavor.

Mehek also offers goat curry Himachali, which is one of their specialty. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and the biryanis are also a hit. The lamb biryani was a standout for us.

Since it’s also a bar, they offer a long, curated list of wines, beers, and mocktails.

The manager was accommodating, and the staff’s hospitality and service were commendable. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel welcome and were attentive to every request.

The price is still reasonable. However, it is higher than casual curry houses. Some diners also reported that busy periods affect the ambience of the place.

Pros

  • Convenient location in the CBD
  • Fully licensed bar
  • Wide range of seafood options
  • Banquet option available
  • Offers gluten-free and dairy-free dishes
  • Attentive staff

Cons

  • Pricier compared to other Indian restaurants
  • Busy periods affect the ambience of the place

Beautiful setting and delicious food

“Absolutely beautiful setting and delicious food! The staff are lovely, friendly, and attentive. Not a long wait for the food, and the spice level was accurate. We had a mix of dishes: goat, lamb, chicken, and vegetarian. I tried them all and they were all lovely. Highly recommend this place!”

Friendly and accommodating staff

“One of my absolute favourite places to eat in the CBD, and, in my opinion, one of the best places to get really good Indian food in Brisbane. Staff are always friendly and accommodating, and for a very fancy look and feel restaurant, the prices are great. Have been coming here for almost 5 years and will keep coming back. Defs recommend”

The place is known for its special vegetable curries. The kadhai paneer was rich and creamy. Basically, everything you want in a curry. The dal makhani and palak paneer are also a must-try.

The lamb vindaloo was recommended by many customers online, and we’re glad we tried it. It was bold, spicy, and delicious.

Other meat options, including chicken and lamb, were used in a wide range of dishes. The naan breads also come in various flavors, and the biryanis were also delicious.

The service was quick and the staff were very accommodating. It only took around 20 minutes for our orders to arrive.

Prices are very affordable. If you’re on a budget but want authentic Indian dishes, Saffron Cuisine is definitely your go-to place.

However, the presentation can be improved, but the food’s taste is phenomenal. During peak hours, seating can be limited.

Pros

  • Fast service
  • Authentic Indian dishes
  • Wide range of special vegetable curries
  • Plenty of meat options
  • Affordable price

Cons

  • Presentation can be improved
  • Limited seating during peak hours

Great lunch specials

“Best Lunch In The Valley! You cannot do better than Saffron for lunch; worth the travel if necessary. Great lunch specials are priced every day. I’m here at least once a week, and it is always a great result. Chicken Vindaloo is a good choice, and there’s always a great paneer option.”

-Karl Cashwell, Google Review

Friendly and attentive service

“Had a great experience at this Indian restaurant! I tried the Chicken Saagwala — it was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. For dessert, the Rasmalai was absolutely mouth-watering. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommended!”
