We’d grown tired of spending our weekends at the same beaches and malls, so we decided to try something new. That’s when we discovered Trevena Glen Farm, a charming family-owned spot along Winn Road in Mount Samson.
Surrounded by rolling hills and friendly farm animals, it was the perfect escape for some family fun. The kids were thrilled. It was their first time meeting alpacas and riding horses.
With so many activities to enjoy, there was never a dull moment at Trevena Gled Farm. Here’s what we got up to, so pack your bags and experience a slice of farm life yourself.
Overview of Trevena Glen Farm

Operating for over 40 years, this family-owned animal farm has been a landmark in the picturesque D’Aguilar Range. It’s a 40-minute drive from Brisbane CBD, making it a perfect weekend getaway destination for families without traveling too far.
This charming farm offers a selection of fun and unique activities. These include horse riding, miniature train rides, and interaction with various farm animals.
Not only is it a great family activity, but the place is also a spectacular spot to hold parties and field trips. Children can lead alpacas and goats on a farm, feed guinea pigs and rabbits, and even collect chicken eggs.

Trevena Glen Farm is home to more than 10 farm animals. It offers a great experience for kids and adults alike to connect and enjoy in a safe animal haven.
The kids enjoy being around animals, so this place is the perfect weekend destination for them to relax after a tiring week at school. There are farm horses, rabbits, chickens, and adorable guinea pigs.
The guides are super friendly as well, taking us around the farm to see and interact with these lovely creatures (we were allowed to pet and feed them). Our tour lasted for around an hour, which is a decent amount of time to cover farm premises.
However, the tour is restricted to 20 people. You’ll need to regroup if you plan to tour with more than 20 people.

One of the attractions on the farm is the exciting horse riding sessions. We were given options, including a short ride (approximately 3 minutes) on a set route around the farm.
However, there’s a limit on the age that is allowed to ride the little ponies. All kids participating in this activity must be between 2 and 10 years old and must weigh under 60kg.
For adults, there’s also an option to book the 3-hour personal tour, which includes horse riding sessions.

Aside from the farm animals, the farm’s tractor is what I’ve been looking forward to coming to this place. It’s a fantastic way to see the farm as you relax, as it takes you through the majestic trees across the bridge.
The ride lasts around 15–20 minutes. It is safe and comfortable for families, with seats on the trailer pulled by the tractor. However, children must be accompanied by an adult.
It also offers numerous photo opportunities. You can capture the wide green paddocks, the mountain backdrop of Mount Samson, and the rustic charm of the farm buildings.

Aside from the farm tour that is made available for the general public, there’s a private animal tour with your group’s personal tour guide.
The kids also had fun petting and grooming the guinea pigs and rabbits. But the highlight of the farm tour was meeting Samson, the mini horse (he’s adorable, and it made me want to take him home).
If you want a longer tour, there’s also a 2-hour private tour that allows visitors to do more stuff. You can lead the alpacas on an extended walk around the farm and groom the donkeys.

The Farm Frolic, Wine & Dine Tour features two destinations throughout its entire itinerary. We started with a 2-hour premium animal tour, which includes horse riding and animal feeding.
After two hours, we departed Trevena Glen and proceeded directly to Ocean View Estates, situated on 100 acres of vineyards and bushland. We were treated to a four-course meal composed of the chef’s favourite dishes and a wine selection.
We spent about 3 hours at the lakeside restaurant. However, visitors are allowed to stay as long as they like and soak up the atmosphere.

If you’re looking for date ideas, well, Trevena Glen Farm’s “Wine and Ride” is the perfect activity for duos. It’s a horse riding experience combined with a social hour with a cheese platter and grazing box for accompaniment.
For the horse experience, each will get to simultaneously ride a horse and complete the on-ground and in-saddle activities. There’s also an on-ground demonstration by one of the head coaches on how to develop connections with your horses.
Following the horse riding activities, the social hour begins. Visitors are offered cheese platters or grazing boxes to enjoy while they watch the sunset.

They say there’s no better teacher than experience, and that’s something I live by. At Trevena Glen Farm, we had a firsthand experience with farm animals, learning a great deal about them.
We had the opportunity to feed alpacas, llamas, and horses. Previously, we prepared their food and supplements ourselves. It’s a great activity for kids to help them realize that having a pet requires a lot of work and commitment.
However, the highlight of this experience is the horse groundwork. One of the coaches taught us how to demonstrate leadership to horses, and we had a horse riding session afterward.
Pro Tips: For tours, we recommend bringing hats and wearing sunscreen, as the weather can be hot during certain months of the year. Comfortable clothes are also recommended. Book Early! For popular time slots, we have observed that they can fill up quickly, so we recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. During tours, please bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated during walks around the farm. While most animals are friendly and enjoy being around humans, we must still follow staff guidance when petting and feeding to ensure the safety of both visitors and the farm animals. Bring a camera! Capture fun moments with the animals and beautiful farm scenery. |
