We had WAY too much fun in West End, Brisbane—why do we have to go home?

Welcome to West End, Brisbane – where quirky meets culture and the coffee flows like a river (trust me, I’ve tested it). The first time I wandered through these eclectic streets, I got lost in the maze of vintage shops and hipster cafes.

I then found myself sipping the best flat white of my life in a hidden gem I probably couldn’t find again if I tried.

Whether you’re into live music, local markets, or just people-watching, West End has something for everyone – and you’ll probably leave with a new favorite spot (or two).

Where is West End, Brisbane?

West End, Brisbane is a suburb stretching across areas like St Lucia, Chelmer, and Graceville. It is bordered by the Brisbane River to the west and south.

How to Get to West End, Brisbane

By car: you can reach the West End by taking the M3 ramp to Logan/Gold Coast. From there, take exit 2 and stay on the left until you reach Vulture Street. Voila! You’re in the West End.

By public transit: from Brisbane, board the 199 bus to West End ferry. Get off at stop 7 on Boundary Street.

Every Saturday at 6 am, the West End Markets come alive with over 150 vendors offering everything from fresh produce to handcrafted gifts and tasty eats. It’s more than just a veggie haven—think delicious food stalls, unique clothing, massages, and other hidden gems. 

The place is a winding maze of must-haves, so bring more cash than you think you’ll need! The craving factor is real, and if you don’t grab something the first time you see it, you might miss your chance—things sell out fast here!

This park is a true gem, with well-maintained playgrounds for all ages featuring swings, slides, and fun climbing tubes. The council does a great job keeping the grounds pristine—the grass is lush, the trees are perfect for climbing, and everything is in great shape. 

Add in beautiful river views, easy access to ferry and bus terminals, and plenty of parking, and you’ve got the perfect spot for a day out. At night, the tree lights add a magical touch!

Vulture Street is filled with awesome murals, you just have to find them. First is at Box Vintage on 73 Vulture Street in the West End. Then, there’s also graffiti outside by Mik Shida and Andy Harwood.

Also, head to 50-52 Vulture Street where walls are filled with street art by different artists. Keep walking until you reach Princhester Street, where a vibrant pineapple mural on the first building to your left adds a quirky touch!

This quaint, cozy shop may be small, but it’s packed with a fantastic range of books, including rare titles you won’t find anywhere else. With genres for every taste, you’re sure to discover a hidden gem. 

The prices are great, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff make the experience even better. It’s easily one of the best bookstores in Brisbane!

Pilloni Restaurant is a stunning Mediterranean-style spot tucked away in West End, with a rustic design and charming atmosphere. 

For a true experience, try the Westholme Supper Club—a five-course wagyu feast for $120 per person. The chickpea tart starter is tasty, but it’s the other courses, particularly the perfectly cooked striploin, that really shine.

IPPIN is one of the top spots for Japanese cuisine in the area, offering a fantastic setting for any occasion. Their menu boasts a delectable range of charcoal-grilled Wagyu, toothfish, and yakitori.

The skewers are a standout—perfectly seasoned and balanced. The cocktails are exceptional, and the oysters with ponzu sauce are a personal favorite of ours—absolutely incredible!

Rich & Rare Restaurant is a must-visit for a top-notch dining experience. Every entree is fresh and surprisingly delightful, with steaks cooked to perfection and well-seasoned. The sides are beautifully presented, adding to the overall experience. 

The oysters are absolutely delicious, while the scallops are perfectly cooked and seasoned, enhanced by a touch of dried seaweed. The barramundi is also impressive, with a crispy skin and expertly cooked flesh.

On the flip side, rental prices are more budget-friendly, starting at $473 per week. In comparison, neighboring suburbs like Highgate Hill and South Brisbane have rental rates ranging from $700 to $725.

The Paniyiri Greek Festival, a celebrated cultural event renowned for its lively Greek dining, dancing, and festivities, is held in Musgrave Park in South Brisbane. 

As Queensland’s longest-running cultural festival and Australia’s oldest Greek festival, it’s a highlight for food, music, and traditional Hellenic dance enthusiasts.

You can choose between buying tickets for individual days or an all-weekend pass. Although tickets are available at the gate, it’s advisable to purchase them online ahead of time.

General admission tickets are $15 if bought in advance, and $18 if purchased on the day of the festival. Children under 12 get in for free, and pensioners pay just $5.

This monthly thrift festival is held at the Boundary Hotel and hosted by Thrifter. This organization encourages the community to sell their pre-loved clothes by providing them a space to do so.
