What I love most is how it blends a buzzing bar with a full-blown games arcade. One moment, I’m sipping an Instagram-worthy cocktail. Next, I’m in the middle of a dart showdown with friends or winding up for a swing at their baseball simulator. 

Set inside Hamilton’s riverside Portside Wharf, the venue feels like a grown-up playground perfect for friendly competition with good food and drinks in one effortlessly social spot. 

How to Get There

Getting to Ballpark Portside is easy. Since it’s tucked inside Portside Wharf in Hamilton, the location makes it accessible whether you’re coming from the city or even straight from the airport.

By Car: When I’m driving, I usually take Kingsford Smith Drive. It’s a smooth 10–15-minute trip from Brisbane CBD. Parking’s never a hassle, with both undercover and streetside spots at Portside Wharf. 

By Ferry: On nights I’d rather leave the car at home, the CityCat ferry is hands-down my favorite. It drops me at Northshore Hamilton terminal, which is just a short riverside stroll to Ballpark. Honestly, the ferry ride itself feels like the perfect prelude to the night.

By Bus: If ferries aren’t your thing, buses along Kingsford Smith Drive make it super straightforward. They run regularly from the city and nearby suburbs, so I never feel stranded if I’m commuting in.

From the Airport: Here’s a little insider hack: Brisbane Airport is only about 10 minutes away. I’ve actually squeezed in a quick round of darts before catching a late-night flight. Ballpark’s location makes it one of the most convenient spots to hit in the city.

If Ballpark is where the competition takes place, Portside Social is where the celebrations kick off. I love it because it’s unpretentious, with big screens still playing sports and portions that never leave you hungry. 

Their chicken parmigiana is legendary for post-game hunger, and the beers always seem colder here. On busy nights, it’s loud and buzzing, but that’s part of the charm. You feel connected to the energy of the entire precinct.

2. Byblos Brisbane (Lebanese/Mediterranean)

Byblos is my pick when I want to slow things down. The venue feels like another world with low lighting, warm spices, and photo-worthy cocktails. 

I usually order a spread of mezze plates with friends: smoky baba ghanoush, lamb skewers, crisp falafel. 

Everything is made for sharing, which makes it perfect after the high-energy vibe of Ballpark. Sitting out on the terrace with a cocktail in hand, overlooking the river, you can feel the night stretching ahead.

There’s something about Bird’s Nest that keeps me coming back. The smell of the charcoal grill hits you before you’re even through the door. By the time I sit down, I’m already eyeing the yakitori menu. 

My favorites are the chicken thigh skewers with tare sauce and the wagyu beef. It’s the kind of food that makes you order one more round. The vibe is lively but cozy, with chefs grilling right in front of you and the sound of glasses clinking in the background.

If I had to sum it up, I’d say Ballpark is “laid-back with an electric edge.” The venue leans casual because you can stroll in wearing jeans and sneakers, but when the big games hit the screens, the energy crackles. 

On quieter weeknights, it makes for a chill after-work hangout, where you can blow off steam with darts before settling into a booth. For dates, it’s playful and unexpected. For weekend reunions, the shared games and food make group catch-ups effortless.

And here’s the kicker: I’ve spotted corporate teams holding strategy sessions in the VIP lounge, laptops out one minute, batting gloves on the next. The ability to shift from boardroom to batting cage in the same space is peak Ballpark.
