Dr Kenneth Cutbush was born and raised in Brisbane and obtained his medical degree at the University of Queensland. He specializes in shoulder surgery and rehabilitation and has been specializing in this field for over 15 years.

It’s quite remarkable to know that some of his patients even fly to Brisbane for appointments, so this is a great sign about his reputation in the field.

It’s also good to note that apart from his private practice, he also dedicated his time to practice at public hospitals.

Currently, he’s Chairman of the Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ASOS) in Queensland as well and Vice President of the organization nationally.

His private practice is at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital at Wickham Terrace. If you need to schedule a consultation with Dr Cutbush, keep in mind some requirements that you need to prepare.

This includes a referral from your GP, Medicare card, health insurance info, pain scale form, X-rays, CT scans, MRI’s or other relevant information, and patient details form.

His initial consultation fee is $250 and the same fee applies for teleconsultation, while subsequent consultations are at $115.

It’s great to hear from previous and current patients that apart from his skills and expertise in the field, he also has excellent communication skills.

We think this is one of the most important things that a patient should look for to keep your mind at ease during the whole process.

Before your appointment with Dr Hope, remember to secure all requirements needed to make your consultation seamless. That’s why we appreciate that forms such as patient info, referral, and post op surgery forms are easily available on their website.

You just need to download the file and fill it out and print before your appointment, which is really convenient for patients. We also find it truly helpful that they have some information on their website about post operative care.

However, consultation fees aren’t posted on their website, so you’d need to contact them to inquire.

  • Specializes in hip and knee replacement, sports knee injuries, lower limb trauma
  • Provides 24/7 after-hours emergency service

Cons

  • Free parking at Mater Private Hospital is usually full
  • Parking fees at nearby car parks are a bit expensive

Dr Nicola Ward is one of the best orthopeadic specialists in Brisbane with her extensive experience in hip and knee replacements, sports knee injuries, and lower limb trauma.

It’s worth noting that she was a fellow at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland which is a well-known institution in the orthopaedic and rehabilitation field.

Dr Ward has a private practice at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and is a Senior Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital. She’s also a Visiting Medical Officer at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

It’s also quite impressive that she is a Specialist Reservist in the Royal Australian Air Force. What’s more, she teaches Emergency Management of Severe Trauma as well.

With Dr Ward’s exceptional background, she’s one of the best specialists to consider for knee and hip replacements, sports injuries, and fractures on the lower limb.

It’s also great that her practice provides 24/7 after-hours service for those who require urgent care. For emergencies, you can proceed to Mater Private Hospital and the team at the emergency department can reach out to Dr Ward for you.

We also find it convenient that parking is free for patients at Mater Private Hospital. However, the slots easily fill up but there are several pay parking facilities nearby but fees can be a bit high.

Pros

  • Specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery
  • Sub-specialty in pediatric orthopaedic surgery
  • Ample parking space at clinic

Cons

  • Commuting to clinic is not recommended because of uphill/downhill streets
  • No consultation fees indicated on website

Dr Mahendra Meta is one of the most highly rated orthopaedic specialists in Brisbane. And this is no surprise as he specializes in adult hip and knee replacement surgery as well as pediatric orthopaedic surgery with over 20 years of experience in the field.

It’s also important to highlight that Dr Meta is one of the few orthopaedic specialists in Brisbane with sub-specialty training in both adult and pediatric orthopaedic surgery.

This is quite impressive as this further enhances his expertise in understanding hip and knee conditions across all age groups. He has extensive experience internationally as well having undergone training fellowships in India and New Zealand.

It’s also worth noting that he applies the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) Program in his orthopaedic surgery practice on hip and knee replacements.

This is combined with the latest technological innovations to improve the overall outcome of the surgery, improving accuracy and longevity of the joint replacement.

We truly appreciate that Dr Meta’s team focuses on making the patient’s joint replacement surgery as pleasant as possible with “personalized patient care.”

When you visit their clinic, it’s pretty convenient that there’s ample parking space within the property and on the street. But we don’t recommend commuting even though there are bus stops nearby as the streets are a bit hilly.

Pros

  • Specializes solely on knee-related problems
  • Team includes sports medicine specialist and knee physiotherapist

Cons

  • There’s out of pocket payables for all surgical procedures
  • Required to have private health insurance

Dr John Gallagher is another highly rated orthopaedic surgeon that you should consider if you need to consult about knee-related sports injuries.

His team at Queensland Knee Surgery Clinic solely focuses on knee-related injuries and they’ve been in practice since 2006 and are trusted by over 7,000 patients. So if you have any knee problems, this is one of the best clinics to visit.

It’s worth noting that Dr Gallagher works with a team of specialists including a sports medicine registrar, Dr Tobias Brucksch-Domanski and physiotherapist, Robert Godbolt. They also have a nurse and practice manager that are always ready to assist.

It’s also great that they give priority to ACL ruptures so you can count on them to attend to your injury within 24 to 48 hours.

Since they only focus on knee-related problems, they offer an extensive range of procedures. This includes knee rejuvenation, reconstruction, replacement, knee physiotherapy, and sports knee clinic.

We also like that they already have a GP referral form available on their website that you can easily fill out and submit online to set an appointment.

If you need to undergo surgery, do note that there’s generally out of pocket payables for all procedures and can’t be claimed through health funds or Medicare.
